Default so how many miles are Z's good for?

looking for a guestimate on how many miles Z's are 'good' for. I've always wanted a Z and I'm debating on a Z with 35k miles vs an RSX Type-S with 12k miles vs 2006 Eclipse GT 3k miles. If I was going for cosmetics it'd be a no brainer but I'm going to be in school for another 6 years and I generally drive 1-4k miles/yr

Due to the fact that the Z has the same engine block as some of the Maxima/Altima's, and that I have seen people drive those cars @ 50,000 miles a year. I would assume the Z will be capable as lasting that long also.

Japanese cars generally are good for in excess of 200,000 miles but if your going to be on a budget I'd start with a car with as few miles as you can get.

We'll find out. My Z just cracked 60k (with very few issues) and I usually put about 20k a year on it...

It should last around 200,000k miles. But it all depends on how you treat it. You can subtract 100,000k miles off of that if you are supercharged or turbo.

Good question. The VQ35 engine is available in several Nissan vehicles. The engine consistently rates in the top-10 by magazines such as Road & Track.

I'm thinking 100,000 miles plus.

How is the transmission holding up? I've heard that its the weak link in the Z's. I only had my car for 2 years and I have 50,000 miles.

I'm rolling onto 40,000 and I've had mine for a 2 roughly two years. Had the transmission replaced at 18,000 and have had no problems since.

I've owned a number of Z's in my life. My cousin is a Nissan Mechanic. We both have seen over 200K miles common on VQ that we have owned. He has had a Maxima that pushed over 300K miles and just got rid of it to get a newer looking Maxima. This is one of the best motors ever put out.
Oh, and we aren't easy on our engines. However, they always have good oil, filters and are in perfect running condition always.

Warning - We have seen aftermarket oil filters blow apart and plug oil passages hence frying the motor. So, we stick with NISSAN filters for warantee reason. We have yet to see a NISSAN come apart and mess up the engine. I'd rather have a K & N or a Mobil 1 filter in there, but why mess with success. However, I do use K & N and Mobil 1 filters in other cars that I own.
