Unhappy lousy seats

Is anyone else unhappy with the power leather seats? No lumber adjustment at all. This car can not compare in seating comfort to my 3 series bmw. How do I go about changing these seats for something more comfortable? and to what?

I think the Zs seats are MUCH better than the 3-series. I really dont care for the lumbar support.

My 2000 328Ci did not have lumbar, but I think the seats are quite comfortable in the Z so far...

But, I have been wearing rather large winter coats lately!

I don't think my heated seats are working. My Bimmer gets very warm on the highest setting. I cannot feel my seat in the Z when it is on high. The LED lights, the engine actually drops idle a little when I press the button.

Need to confirm this with the group.

The Z heaters are definitely not that hot. My GTP seat on low is hotter than the Z on high it seems. High on the GTP will roast parts you don't want roasted

Here is a lumbar support cushion I bought from Brookstone; it works quite well.

I think the leather seats are firm but comfortable for sport seats. The heated seats work fine to me. Maybe its all the clothes you people are wearing thats why its not hot enough.

Thumbs up

I think the seats are great and provide good support. You know that there is a low and a high setting for the warmer.

I'm not saying it isn't hot enough, just not as hot as my Pontiac. There is quite a bit of difference.

I personally like the temp (although the thermostat cutting it on and off is kinda lame). As for wearing too many clothes....well duh It is winter when you use a heater after all

Yes, we know there is a high, and the high isn't as warm as the low on my other car, as I said above.

What yr is your GTP? My friend has a 2001 and blew his engine. He tells me he full throttles it in every stoplight! Had to change his tires 2times, when he has only 20,000miles.

98. I'm going to be selling it soon, I suppose.

Has he done any mods? 3800s are usually pretty tough motors. After all, the GN/GNX/Turbo Trans Ams were using basically the same block. I don't think I remember hearing many blown engines when I used to read the GP boards/mail lists. Transmissions are the weak link usually.

real men like their fannies to be toasty too! its nice cause the seat will heat up faster then the heater, and leather can be mighty cold sometimes.

Sit you butt in a heated seat sometime Rat. They are nice on cold days. You will wonder how you lived without them.

And I really don't think of myself as "candy ***" if I want to be warm. After all, most of us lost our hairy coats a couple million years ago. Now I use Mountain Hardwear Gortex XCR to keep my warm-blooded azz warm.

Anyway, back to the heated seats. The heaters on my bimmer have 3 levels. The highest will roast your nutz. It gets downright uncomfortable and I usually use level mid or low. I can barely feel the Z's probably because I wear large jackets in the winter. I will have to check next time I drive her. But they just don't have that toasting effect to me. Minor issue.

Thanks for the info Mannish.

Yes he did (ram air hood, chip, etc).Had the trans replaced when it had 1000miles. He also has a tank of nitro. He told me wanted to race my Z for $. They are quick like the 255hp Maxima up to around 60mph then the Max starts pulling away. I know because I raced one ,the stock GTP.

Hi Drake,

I was just giving you guys a hard time for the fun of it. I do find heated seats to be kind of funny. But keep in mind I'm considersable older than most on here. I think back to my truck driving days with The Detroit News in the 60s. Man those trucks were cold on Michigan winter nights. Wish they would have had heated seats back in the "old days"! LOL.

Hey Rat.

Yeah, I know - I was just messing around too.

Hey, if you think heated seats are candy-a$$ I got an X5 loaner one time at the BMW dealer that had a heated steering wheel!!
It worked really well, damn thing heated up in about 10 seconds.

That is the pimp-plush boo yah. (Definitely not a man's option!)

Default seats

Thank you for all replies. I have no complaint about the heaters on the seats. I think they work great. My complaint is with lower back pain ( and I mean lots). I shimmed up the rear of the seat today , and it may be better , but I am too sore to tell right now. I am thinking once the leather seat is worked in abit it may be more comfortable. I only have 275km on them right now. Has anyone with more mileage, noticed a difference during time? thankyou.

Gosh, ouch. Back pain is not good. I have my seat moved up a bit closer than I would have thought I would have liked (better control of those yummy pedals) and have the back nearly all the way up - but I've found the seat to be plenty comfy.

You should check into an additional lumbar support pillow, like the one from Brookstone, etc.

My only issue with the seat is 1) there's no way to get in and out of gracefully and 2) the seatbelt chokes me a bit - cuts across my throat.
