I went with the Base for modding. I didn't want to pay for having a VLSD when I knew I would replace it, same for the Brembo's on the Track model, side air bags that would be replaced for racing buckets, and don't need Nav, leather, or any electronic TCS for a track car, and it was the lightest Z around at 3188 lbs. I know the new 06's are heavier. For modding, I think the ball of clay analogy is right on. And it was more affordable than the other models.

I only read the first few post. all I have to say is WAY TO MANY of you guys need someone to hold your hand while driving....

Learn to drive. If you need a computer to help you stay on the road you need to downgrade to a PT cruiser.

P.S. Base + after market LSD = perfect Z.

You would probably get by if you upgraded to a better tire other than stock, but I still believe VDC is important. I got an 03 Touring just because it was the only Black/Burnt Orange/ 6MT they had on the lot.

You have a touring 6mt yet your car is equiped with potenzas? I'm pretty sure my 6 speed touring has michelin pilot sports.

Yes, Potenzas stock on all Zs. I don't know if it was changed in the newer models though.

I remember when I first got my base Z. I remember thinking, damn this thing handles great in the rain! I was extra cautious at first but got more comfortable with it quickly. I've been well into triple digits in the wet stuff.

Some people must have a faulty driver mod.

That's what search engines are for.

This thread is about the base coupe, not differentials.

100 MPH in ANY car in the rain is insanity. Do us all a favor and sell your Z and buy my 95 corolla Beater...top speed is like 50.

It had been a while since I posted to this thread so I forgot you started it. My apologies. It looked like one of those random posts burried in a unrelated thread that people tend to make. Anyhow, your first post was about the base coupe, and lack of TCS. Nowhere did you mention LSD/differentials in the post or in the subject line. If you want information on LSD's, it would be a better idea to start a new thread, or better yet... search and/or post to the countless existing LSD threads. Just some helpful advice on better using the forums to your advantage.

I was simply stating that I've had my Z to high speeds (120mph) in the rain without issue. Of course it was in familiar territory with acceptable surroundings in light/moderate rain on a fresh set of tires, but that is beside the point. The stock base Z does quite well in the rain. These posts saying the Z is terrible in the rain are unfounded and simply not true.

ya.. that was what i was thinking.. some places give the base for 27 grand.. while other places give the enthusiast for 27,400.. depends on where i buy.. i will buy in 3 months due to some negative equity on my current car.. plus, i will get an employee discount once i start working over summer , june to be exact

you would be better off even getting a 05 with like 5k miles just to be able to afford the Touring model.

Only regret on my 2005 Base was the yellow headlights, but Jun Tanaka's OEM HID kit fixed that fast and inexpensive.

why touring? whats wrong with 06 enthusiast? i dont need leather, or cruise control, or anything else.. i pretty much want a basic 350z that has traction control.. so either a base with aftermarket LSD, or plain enthusiast
