Default New Here..Question about VIN number

Hello Everybody

I am lookign at a 2004 Z. I have read that there is a 4 and 4.5, where the 4.5 has a better quality based on VIN number. The VIN is :

JN1AZ34E44T052790
Is this a 4 or a 4.5

Thanks!!!

Not sure if you can tell by that. AFAIK, there is no official '04.5 model; there were just a few changes made mid-model year (not even sure what they are), so you'd need production numbers and dates to be able to tell. Look at the production date on the door jamb sticker; that would probably tell you more.

I had trouble telling too, there are threads on here about VIN numbers and what year your car is.. do a search. That still didn't answer my question, so I called Nissan up directly and asked them what year my car is by the VIN# and they gave me the answer I was looking for. I *think* their number is 1-800-NISSAN-1

Welcome.

Figuring out whether the Z is a 2004 or 2004.5 is difficult just looking at the VIN. I do not have a VIN decoder handy, but it appears that the car is a 2004 production #52,790. The production number seems wrong to me.

And about the 2004.5 being better than the 2004, I think that’s silly.

The 2004.5 will have the knee pads on the center console.

I just ran a carfax report on the car to check it out.

Carfax shows no major problems. No accident record, and it has had 2 owners in Ohio.

Based on dates, I would think it would be considered a 2004 and not a 2004.5 though. The vehicle was shipped to the original dealer on 10/02/03 and the vehicle was first sold on 2/9/04.
