Default Top Speed?

I was just wondering i anyone knew what the top speed was on the Z (06 if different from other years) because i was on the highway the other night and was cruising along at 100mph and just decided to speed up like an as*. So anyway i downshifted to 5th and got it up to 150 with around 600-800rpm's left (in 5th gear) and was wondering if there was a limiter on the top speed.

Actually the speedos read 159 when the limiter kicks in. Hitting the speed limiter is not as extreme as hitting the revlimiter, but you can definitely tell there is more power to be had. 159mph on the speedo is more accurately about 155mph in reality since the speedos are a little over-rated. I would say that without the limiter you could approach the speed rating of the stock tires (168 actual mph).

i took mine to 165 at least thats what the electronic numbers said i dont read the gauges on the colum to much. its easier to read the one on the dash. all i could hear were the tires roaring.

I took mine up to 150 once, I don't think I'll ever do it again if I'm not on a track. It scared the hell out of me.

Yeah I forgot mine is an 04.5.

Jcarp.... is yours the 300hp?? I wouldnt think they would bump up the speed limiter even though it has more top end, since the 155 limit has been standard.

When you hit 165, were you electronically limited or drag limited, or did you just let off??

mine is the 06 with 300. i rolled a mustang one time going 130 around a turn, even though i was on the interstate i decided to back off. i felt like that was fast enough for me but it felt really good knowing that my car can look like a blue streak going down the road.

110 kph = 68.35 mph

150 meters = 492.13 feet [1 football field = 300 feet]

155 mph = 227.33 feet per second

155mph electronic limiter. I've heard that without it will do 167mph, but don't quote me on that.

I hit 155 but I was scared the limiter would hit so I kept it right at 155 for about 10miles across TX. It did seem like it had some more left in it. I think it might hit 170 with the car stock. People with the car lowered, lip and maybe a rear spoiler wing, and F/I should be good to hit 185+ and I'm sure those with enough hp should hit close to 200 soon/with the right amount of road in front of them.

Rear spoiler wing? I've heard of a spoiler (thing at the front of the car) and a wing (thing at the back of the car), but never a combo of the two. At any rate, a rear wing, besides maybe adding downforce, will do nothing to help you go faster. Where do you think that downforce comes from anyway? It's from the DRAG of the wing going through the wind. In other words, a wing will slow you down, not speed you up.

You're right-on about lowering the car, though. That can definitely help.

So how stable does the car feel at top speed and has anyone ever done this with a carbon hood. I can't imagine a flimsey CF hood hangin on at that point.

I haven't done it with a CF hood, I'm bone stock (aero-package). I'm glued at 159mph. The car is damn stable at high speeds. I'm more worried about hitting an animal.
