I have a S/B Touring with NAVI, and as the weather gets warm, my mind starts to think about the next time and place to put my Z on the road.
Whether it is an early morning 80-100 mile run for a cup of coffee to a weekend trip to "somewhere", my Z is my personal roller-coaster that just keeps calling....nothing I like better than packing a week-end bag....entering a destination into NAVI and going!
If you are into the same, post-up the major city you live near and your favotite cruize destination and roads.....here are a few of my favorites.
From Chicago:
1.) Galena, Il via I-88W>>>I-39>>US-20.....(day-trip/have made this a breakfast run...
)
2.) Starved Rock, IL via I-80W and or US-6.......(day-trip)
3.) Milwaukee, WI via I-294.......................(Starbucks run...
)
4.) Dekalb, IL via US-64...........................(Starbucks run....
)
5.) Washington, DC via I-80E>>I-76E>>I-70E>>I-270S....(week-end).
6.) Nashville, TN via I-57S>>I-24E......(week-end trip)
7.)Branson, MO via I-55S>>I-44W>>>US-65S(week-end trip)
8.) St.Louis, MO via I-55S>>I-64W(week-end trip)

HWY 98 East along Pensacola thgough Gulf Breeze into Destin. This is why they invented convertables. Gulf on one side of you, Bay on the other and no traffic on a freshly black topped divided 4 lane highway.

From Redondo Beach, CA
North on Hwy 1 (Pacific Coast Hwy) aka PCH, through Malibu to 101N and into Santa Barbara. Continue on 101 to go through Santa Barbara County (wine country) take 246 East and end in Solvang, CA.
This was my first "fun" road trip in the Z and I did it about 2 weeks ago. I enjoyed every minute of it...
took about 2 1/2 hours total

From SF Bay Area / San Jose, Ca.:
Day Trips:
Carmel 17 mile drive - Takes about an hour to get there from San Jose. Here are some of the most beautiful coastal sites including the Monterey Bay Area. If you have the time travel south from there on PCH Hwy 1 (Pacific Coast Highway) about 25 miles to Big Sur State Park. Once there, and on the way there, you will see some of the most beautiful sea cliffs with wild flowers and crashing water on the rocks.
San Francisco - About 45miles / 40 minutes from San Jose, Ca. There are all sorts of things to see here. **** Hill, Golden Gate Park, Presidio, Treasure Island, Sutro Tower Hill, Fisherman Wharf, Ferry Park - to see the wild parrots, Ocean Beach area (Cliff House), Ghiridelli Square, etc....
Sonora / Columbia - Columbia is an old west town that is up on HWY 49 in the gold country. Columbia is only about 80 miles away from San Jose, Ca. It has old west streets/stores, gold panning for the kids, and even a playhouse that you shouldn't miss. Sonora, which is about 10 miles away, is also a great place to visit however, it is newer in construction and can be very interesting at times. Moaning Caverns are also only about 15 miles from Columbia.
Old Town Sacramento / Historical Railroad Museum - About 100 miles from San Jose, Ca. you'll find the State Capital. In this Capital City you should not miss Old Town Sacramento. At this riverside town of the 1800's you find paddlewheel boats, old west streets, and a railroad museum that will blow your mind!

from orange county to arizona. 91 east, 15north, 40 east all the way to arizona. then up to the grand canyon area. There is this big long desert stretch of road by the grand canyon. It is absolute heaven. There are indian reservation shops on the side of the road so you can stop to buy jewelry/beef jerky.
The trip takes about 7 hours if you're driving normally, but took me about 5 hours in the Z. It was bliss.

At the end of that road in 2003, is where that kid had his arm bitten off by a shark.
