Default Extra $2k, what to do?

got my tax check back, about $1600. i'm lookin to spend no more than $2000 on something for my Z. It is bone stock with exception of headlights, taillights, and reflectors.

what is or are the best mods to do with $2000?

i know some people say, "set your goals first, its up to u" but there is so many choices out there. basically, i wanna make my car faster, but i dont need it extremely fast... at least for now. i also wanna change out the wheels sometime soon (19's or 20's) and do a mild drop, but i really want a new sound system. also i hate the shift **** n want something smaller. I have an SB touring. ughghghgh, what to do with $2000....

put it all on red. and try to turn that $1600 into $3200.

then put the $3200 on red again, and try for $6400.

then $6400 into a $101001010100 dollars!

and get turbo.

Make it go faster...
You could get test pipes, y-pipe, exhaust, intake, plenum spacer and some pulleys if you shop around and prolly still have some cash left over.

You will definately see a difference in performance if you do the above mods.

Electronics - how about a Parrot bluetooth handsfree kit - the 3200 LS is about $200 and the no-cut harness install is $149 or $49 depending on whether you have a Bose factory system - see these links:

In that case, get some headers. You can get Strups for around $400.

P.S. This is all assuming you do the installs yourself. If not, you might lose out on some of these parts.

Tony (does all installs, buys more parts with saved loot)

You want new wheels and tires...suspension mods...a new sound system...a shift ****...and make the car go faster for $2,000. Is that all?

You are going to have to concentrate on 1 area with only 2k.

For 2k you could get a set of RAYS Forged wheels 19" from the G35 (1500), spacers (250), and lower the car (250). It would make a drastic appearance difference. There are several posts in BRakes, Wheels, Tires and Picture Share (including two posts of mine) with this setup.

For 2k you could round out the bolt-ons you are missing (Testpipes $100-150, Pulleys, $200, Plenum Spacer or aftermarket plenum $200-400, headers 300-400, exhaust $750-1000). This would make a drastic performance improvement and the only major N/A mod you would be missing is the ECU reflash that you can buy with your next $600.

For 2k you could do a decent stereo setup with components (MB Quarts are my favorite and are affordable), 10" sub under the strut bar, good amplifier, and a $1000 DVD/CD player.

There is a lot you can do, but you will never do it all for $2k. It doesn't really pay to mix and match between the areas either if you ask me, but thats also a possibility. Get a plenum spacer (200), exhaust (750), and the dvd player. Or any combination. However, I suggest going all out in one area with the $2k. I'd lean towards the bolt-on option B.

Attend a driving school at Skip Barber or similar. You'll get far more out of it, and have far more fun, than you will with any over-priced, under-performing aftermarket parts.

isn't this like a third post this month where somebody ask what they should do with X amount of money? i'm surprised nobody said anything about search yet.. so i'll do it. SEARCH!

on a more serious note. for looks, go with the wheels option. for performance, $2000 is not a bad amount of money to spend especially on the above mentioned items. stereo? i personally don't care too much for sound system so i dont know much about it, so no comment.

You could help a brother out. I lost $500 the other day, i was on the way to buy my ARC oil catch tank/ti strut bar. The 5 Benji's fell out of my pocket somehow/somewhere.
Spend it well bro, definitely go for some wheels there are tons of classifieds for slightly used Volks/Work/Racing Hart. GET A SET!!

That would be the smartest thing assuming you owe, but the Z aint about being practical so save a bit more and get some used Lightweight Wheels and wider tires. Nismos, Volks, etc., springs. That unfortunately will be more than 2k.

i'm not trying to accomplish all my goals with the $2k, just trying to get ideas, and see which area i should work on first. very good suggestions.

yes, it would be nice to use the money to pay off some of the car loan, but that would be boring!
