Anyone in CA have only 1 plate??

Read in the LA Times about 2 months ago (in connection with Winona's lawyer, who drove her to court in his MBenz without a front plate) - "he was breaking the law by not having a front plate."

I have not put my front plate on my Z and have not had any problems (I've had the car since mid september).
The front bracket on my old pickup got frozen in a snow bank and ripped off when I drove away, and I never got a ticket for that either (about 3 years of no front plate). I think I even got a speeding ticket without the front plate, but nothing happened.
I don't plan on putting the Z's front plate on unless I get a really bad fix it ticket or start getting hassled frequently.
