i took off the front plate because it just doesn't look right. Is CA a two plate state? I've heard it is.. and other ppl saying it isn't. I just carry the front plate in my car just in case. anyone else got a front plate or has received a fix it ticket?
s9am_me,
I live in California, and yes, I received a fix it ticket for no front license plate on my 240Z. Maybe if I owned a 'vette I wouldn't have gotten it
. The ticket was given to me by a rookie (I asked him), so maybe that explains it (the ticket). But hey, as soon as I get a 350Z I'm gonna chance it again.

California is a 2 plate state but the frequency of getting pulled over for it varies depending on where you are. For instance, LA county around LA city you are much more likely to get a ticket for it because many areas of west LA have the red-light cameras. Here in orange county, i drive without a front plate on my Acura 3.2TL (Z due in April) and i pass OC Sheriffs, Anaheim PD, Buena Park PD, Garden Grove PD, and Westminster PD every day (seriously everyday) and i have never been pulled over for not having a front plate (they give me looks cuz i've modified my car but they're chill on the plate thing). My buddy recently had a front bumper installed on his Accord and 6 weeks later he got popped by LAPD for the front plate.
I'll make the call when i have the Z in my driveway as to whether or not I'm going to sport the plate (chances are i will as cops by nature are more likely to pull over a Z than a 4 dr sedan like my TL).

Ya, Cali is a 2 plate state, I heard its a fix it ticket if u do get pulled over for it... 1) Some people put their plates on their dash near the window, I'm not sure if thats legal.
2) Some people carry around their front plate in their car, and If they ever do get pulled over they say they just got a new bumper or some excuse like that and say they were planning to put it back on once they got home.

I always only have the rear plate on. Back in the days, cops used to pull me over for it. Which is only a correction ticket($10). But now and days, more and more new cars doesnt have the front plate pre-mounted. And half of the cars on the street are driving without the front license plate. So the cops dont care much about that anymore. Same as to lowering, or modified exhaust fixup tickets. No, they are not legal. But you hardly see anyone getting pull over for it. For me at least.

stealthrapt0r,
my plates didn't get to me until about month and two weeks.. just hang in there bro and enjoy it while u can.. cuz with the plates.. it doesn't have that "new" feel to it anymore
Anyways.. good points Phatmitzu. My friend has a loud @ss exhaust and never got pulled over for it. I guess in the city or end of the month.. they're more picky.

From what I hear it's totally gray area rule, from what I've heard and it's all 3rd party, if your car doesn't have the capability to carry one, IE, no front bracket, you don't need a front license plate. I specifically told the dealer to NOT drill 2 holes in my new Z.
ok guys, here ya go:

what if i claim to have one only?

I got my Z33 on 11/8/02, and STILL haven't received my plates. I was hoping for a plate starting with 4Zxxxxx, like 4ZZZ666 or something, that woulda been sweet. But now I'm already seeing 5Axxxxx plates, so I guess I'm SOL. But in my Z32, I took the front plate off, and I've been pulled over once in it, for a yellow light run, (but officer, I swear it was orange) and no hassles over the plate. But since I live in Temecula and work in Fallbrook, every day I have to go through the !@##$% Border Checkpoint (hey, don't you idiots know that the border is 60 miles south?!?) and without a front plate, they would stop me, and ask me where I am going, where I was coming from, the usual B.S., until I put the plate in the front right corner of the windshield. As per CVC 26708.3.b.3, it is OK to have a sign, sticker or other material displayed in a 7 inch square in the lower corner of the windshield farthest removed from the driver, unquote. (pg 869 of the 2002 CVC) Since putting the plate there, they have never stopped me once at the checkpoint, since they can see that it is a Cali car.
So, when and if my plates ever arrive for the 350, I am NOT, I repeat, NOT going to put my front plate on. And I will probably not even put it in the windshield corner unless it becomes a hassle with the border clowns. (Security guard rejects with guns) Especially since my plate for the Z32 is cut down to fit nicer in that 7 inch square, which is technically illegal, since you can't modify your plates, but nobody's ever noticed. I just shaved a little off the top and bottom anyway. Anyone want to buy a piece of reflective metal that says "Sesquicentennial-150 years" on it? I'll let you have it for 25 cents. And that's my dos centavos.

No front plates on my Z. No problems either! I got a Fix it ticket ones for my E36 M3, and I paid for it. Never installed the front plate on the BMW. It really depends on the cops. My plate is also 4ZXXXXX.
I recently heard on the news that the cops are going to crack down on front plates because the red light cameras are going to be back in effect starting this summer. I'm still not putting on my front plate though.
