Lower RPM means better fuel economy and less NVH.

I'll admit that does seem a little high compared to other cars of the same caliber. But on the other hand you can figure that 80mph@3k translates into 160mph@6k.

I think tire size factors into your final drive ratio also, right?

Nope.

Total final drive ratio = transmission ratio X final drive ratio.

So for the manual transmission in 6th gear we have: 0.794:1 X 3.538:1 = 2.809:1.

Maybe this has been answered b4. does this mean that the engine is capable of making 206.5 mph at 7,200 rpm?

192mph at 7200 RPM.

With no drag from the car, no drive train loss and no tire slippage...

my 05 6mt g35 sedan hits 3000 rpms at 80 mph in 6th gear....

my 2k2 6spd maxima hits 2600-2700 rpms at 80 mph (90mph at 3k rpms) in 6th gear....

result:

maxima has better fuel economy due to the taller 6th gear...but takes longer to accelerate to 90+ in 6th gear... maxima only has injen intake installed...

g35 goes from 80mph to 90+mph in 6th gear in half the time with half the effort, if trying to conserve gas...(cruising in sweet power band range) otherwise i drop it to 5th(or 4th if need for speed is calling) and blow past 70mph traffic like they're standing still....especially with z-tube w/ amsoil nano drop-in, mrev+, and hks rear sport muffler...

yeah gearing makes a difference and so does torque for accelerating at hi speed...

don't be pissed.... lower displacement 4 bangers are at 4k+rpms when doing 80mph because they need the hi-rev power to stay there due to their gearing...

you want 2k rpm at 80mph, get a v8 like a vette...

just my 2 cents...

If it wasn't for drag coefficient and tire rolling resistance, sure, 207 mph is possible.

I had a turkey wrap for lunch. Pretty good.
I actually looked to see what RPM I was at when going 80 earlier and I was at 2700.

Corvette's 6th gear is only at like 2,100rpm at like 80mph.

That's why the gas mileage on it is almost as good as the 350Z.

It's much better then the Z. The Vette is the benchmark for performance/gas mileage ratio.

Doing between 75 and 85 gets me 26 mph. Is there a problem?

Doesn't the engine shut off cylinders when cruising too?

Only when you are cruising in in the higher gear, not when you are driving aggressively.

Sorry still better then the Z.

Probably will always be, unless they move over to cams

So, go out and get an auto final Drive installed on your MT, when doing 80 im around 2500rpms (+- 200rpms)

2nd tops out at 65
3rd tops out at 90+
I cruise on the freeway in 4th around 2800 rpms doing 65

Not true.
Corvette:
6.0L LS2 V8 six-speed manual transmission 18/28

7.0 LS7 V8 six-speed manual transmission 16/27

03-05 Z: six-speed manual transmission 20/26. Do think 18>20?

Mind you these are EPA figures, I dont know aggressive is their city driving, V8 is going to glug more than a V6 with respective displacements.
