Default Tinting...

I'm getting quoted for about $240 for all windows at 20% except the front windshield of the z. Is it just me or is this too much?

I think thats to high for 3 windows... I got mine for $75 at 5%.

If i did the front window it would have been an extra $50. Check around try to get a few people to go and do there tints with you. Helps you save money.

Check what brand tint they are using. A good tint place will carry a variety of dyed, hybrid, and metallic tints at various prices.

Also be sure they have a lifetime warranty and that they've been in business for a while.

$240 is definitely too high. I spent $140 for all windows, but that was 2 years ago.

i am a tinter. i normally charge $100 for the z because the car is so easy. i am no shady tinter and my work is always good, and i can do the z in 20 minutes. there is no reason that you should pay $240; whatever the tinter tells you, it's bull. best thing to do is ask around for quality shops. and never go to the cheapest shops. when it comes to service businesses, try not to bargain prices. when you bargain, shops will tend to let their apprentice do the work or might not redo a job if the quality of the instal isn't up to par. it makes sense, your cutting their prices down so in turn they have to cut their costs down.

I think they took about 5 hrs on my friends' z. That seemed like a long wait for tint.

LOL...I called another mod shop and they gave me same pricing, 240 bucks. They claim that it is industrial strength tint which is the best. They do quality work and there is a 3yr warranty on it.

I'll keep looking around. If anyone has any suggestions on shops that will do it for cheaper, let me know. Thanks.

I paid $175 (discounted from $200) for 35% all around and it took them about an hour. Portland, OR.

edit: Solar Gard tint which I really like and, as stated below, has a lifetime warranty.

3-year warranty. ha, we give life-time warranties: solar gard. i thought life-time warranties were the requirement now days. but, even though it says lifetime, there is no way in hell it will last that long; five years tops. but as long as you have the warranty papers, solar gard will honor your warranty.

3M is decent but not that great. 20% is very nice though. i want to tint mine 20% but it is illegal here in hawaii and the tickets are crazy expensive.

and one more thing, when you get it tinted, make sure that the shop takes off the door panels; and make sure that they know how to take it off and put it back on in one piece. good quality shops that take pride in their work almost always take off door panels. the z roll-down winows are easy, but taking off the panel ensures that the tint won't peel on the bottom and have clouds of dust in it.
