Default 4 Layer paint?

Is this an option or was my dealer b.s-ing me? He was trying to sell me an 05 Yellow with what he said had a 4-Layer paint. I did see that it was metallic, but is this an actual option?

4 Layer Paint?

No, I haven't heard of such an option. Is this a new Z? I'd double check if it had any bodywork done to it since they could've just added the extra layers while getting some bodywork done.

I dont know about yellow but I know PPW (pearl white) has a 3 stage paint process. I dont know why there would be a 4 stage though.

"stage" is different than "layer"... PPW is 3 stage because they apply the base, then the pearl, then the clearcoat..

In 'o4 and '05 there were special color options that they charge a premium for, Liquid Aluminum in '04 and Ultra Yellow in '05. The yellow probably is more stages that standard two stage paint, but I don't know about 4. At any rate, he was probably trying to justify the surcharge for that color, which should be a moot point by now if it's a leftover '05. I still see some yellows on the lots around here; you should be able to talk them down.

Ultra yellow was a $500 option.

I think harlequin paint (the blue, purple, green paint) may be 4 stage because of the different types of pearls, but the Ultra Yellow (which has a red flake in it) is likely just 3 stage.

But if he really meant 4 LAYER, then that would explain how friggin crappy the paint is on these cars.

"Ultra Yellow" was a $500 option on my 2005 AE 350Z. The touchup paint I bought for the car consists of 2 colors- a tube of the yellow basecoat, and a tube of clear that contains a yellow metallic tint. If you catch a Ultra Yellow in the sun there is a lot of "flake" in the paint. I guess if you include the primer, base coat, and 1 or 2 coats of clear, you could call it a 4-layer paint.

I don't believe this color is available in '06.

Interlagos Fire wwhich the purplish color is color changing (2-3 colors) and I'm sure is layered. They charge $500 extra for it. Has anybody ever seen that color? I haven't yet.

I've seen it. Too purple for me, but some people love it.

Beginning in '04, Nissan offered a limited premium color. "03 was Liquid Aluminum, '05 was Ultra Yellow and Interlagos Fire for '06. Brickyard was only offered in '03, but I don't think they charged extra for it (I could be wrong). Wonder what they'll offer for '07, Ecotplasmic Green?

I have a "yellow" Z or to be exact an "ULTRA YELLOW" . The paint code is E33, and this color was only offered for the '05 models. This paint cost an extra $500 because it's a metallic paint that requires additional coats to acheive the effect. The color has been discontinued and was replaced with "Interlago Fire" which is basically a purple hue.

LOL. 3-Stage is what he was probably trying to say. Maybe he's talking more clear...
