Somewhere in the manual ('06 ZR) it mentions that the life of the HID headlights is adversely affected by turning them off for short periods of time. The example, as I recall, is turning them off while waiting at a light. That implies that turning them on and off is not good for them; once turned on they should be kept on as long as possible.

Does this mean that flashing the lights will also shorten their lifespan?

why would u turn your headlights off at a light?

 

Turning the HID's off and on repeatedly is bad for it, as with any florescent lights.

Flashing your high-beam when your car's lights is turned off (I.E, during daytime driving) is not good for the HID's, because they also turn on and off along with the high-beam -- same for the '06's. However, if you flash your high-beam when your lights are already on (I.E night time driving), then it is NOT bad for the HID's, because they do not turn on and off in syncronization with the high-beam.


lol...the owner's manual cautions some pretty retarded things, like not towing a trailer for the first 500 miles or so -- why in the world would you tow a trailer in the Z? My car feels heavy already with just one fatass friend in it

 

Beats me! This example is in the manual. My concern is flashing the high beam when the headlights are off, as when acknowledging another Z. Another post answered that question: It shortens the life of the HID. By how much we don't know.

The life of HIDs is greatly affected by anytime the current enters and exits the bulbs....which everytime you turn off and on...AND also if you're looking for your car in a crowded parking, if you set off your panic alarm to find your car, your headlights will blink on and off constantly...which is NOT good for your bulbs...and one more thing that can also affect your headlights is the usage of amplifier...if the amp pulls the current from the battery and there's not enuf to feed it, it will draw the power away from your headlights and your headlights will flicker, that will kill the bulbs...that's why you get one of those cell type batteries...

 

Ever had a house lamp bulb burn out while the light had already been turned on or did the bulbs burn out when you turned the light on? Which seems to happen more frequently? Therein lies the answer.
