I had to raise it up a bit high to do an oil change, while I was raising it down, when i was done, I heard a metal clanking sound with a thump, and my car abruptly fell. the long screw part of the jack is bent and my head could've been crushed. WTF? Does this mean I can sue the shat out of nissan and become a millionaire for almost dying, and also their weak *** jack?

Did you use jack stands? I usually use jack stands and a tire underneath so it won't crush my beautiful head. The stock jack is meant for quick tire changes and can probably only hold 1 ton max.

 

you had to have been trying to raise the whole side of the car at once.

its only rated to lift one corner of the car.

but if it was on just one corner and you have evidence of that you could raise hell. dont know if it would make you a milionare or even a thousandare. but you could see some kind of compensation

 

wow. so many ways to reply! should have worn your helmet like the cat. those jacks are roadside emergency only. tire changes that is. i wouldn't even go under a heavy duty hydraulic jack without jackstands.

I only raised one side of the car (not the whole front end). I also used another heavier duty jack. I used the stock only to get the initial height, cuz my car is too low for the other jack. after I was done, i took out the other jack, first and the proceeded to lower the stock jack. This happened in my garage, where the floor is leveled.

 

well, you came out unharmed. thats good. always use stands. if the jack gives, you can post about your near death experiance. if it happens while lowering, at least your not under the Z. Dont become a preimere member death thread with pics. i hate those.

Report it to Nissan. They need to know that it failed. If they get a number of such reports they would be smart to do a voluntary recall.

Note: with heavy duty swaybars and a mild lowering, BOTH front and rear tyres will come off the ground when you jack up the car = double weight = broken jack. Dont know if this applies to you

try suing them, might be a fun thread to watch; personally i would never use the stock jack from ANY car to do ANYTHING other than emergency roadside sparetire changing...going under the car with that stock jack is a deathwish waiting to happen... btw read the user manual for the car, i didn't, but maybe there is small print in there about the jack and saying to not use it for anything other than tire changing and that u shouldnt go under the car, if the manual DOES say that, then you have no case

 

Only way you could sue Nissan is if it actually fell on your head and caused brain damage. You can't sue for what could of happened.

I would definatly contact Nissan and let them know what happen, they will probably ask you to give the jack to your local Nissan Dealership so they can examine it and determine if they need to do a recall on the jacks.

 

It sounds to me like you improprely used the jack. Where was the OEM jack located and where was your other jack located?

Doesn't the car manual say that the OEM jack are for putting a spare tire on in an emergency which does not involve you putting your head underneath the car?

Doesn't the car manual specifically mention to NOT use the OEM jack for changing your oil?

WARNING
-Never get beneath vehicle, start or run engine when it is supported by jack.
-For other warnings; see owners manual.

More warning in the Owners Manual:
-Do not use the jack provided to you for other vehicles.
-The jack is designed only for lifting your vehicle during a tire change.

More warning in the Owners Manual for oil change:
-Raise and support the vehicle using a suitable floor jack and safety jack stand.(notice it said a suitable floor jack, and not the OEM jack)

With the above documentations, you would be eaten alive in court.

 

LOL i used my jack + my moms maxima jack to install test pipes once. I was scared chitless with two jacks, ur pretty manly for trying 1.

with that kind of money on your car, invest in some stands and a low profile jack and ramps if needed. Safety at all cost!
