Older cars would leave metal deposits in the pan, when they're getting broken in. I don't think this is no longer the case. I'd still do it around 1200 miles after your break-in period. I just replace mine with mobile 1 synthetic and also the filter by mobile 1. I did it cuz mainly out of laziness. I think I'm good for 10k miles, since I don't drive too crazy.

I think cannysage has the right idea...i've heard that you will want to do it after the break in period.

Hey cannysage, does synthetic really let you run that long? If so i'd think that it'll be worth it

it's supposed to be 15k miles. A lot of the new BMWs use synthetic and 10k is their recommended change. I don't recommend 15k, though. I'm going to check it at 5k and see what the condition is. My goal is 10k, but may have to do it before... we'll see. It cost me around $50 for the oil and filter and I did it myself. Something I'd never do If I had to do it every 4k miles. bimmer dealers charge like $300 for their oil change.

Yes I agree with changing it at around 1200 miles. I use Royal Purple and a K&N Filter. Works great. The Filter is good for 7500 miles and the Royal Purple is a TRUE synthetic oil, not like Mobile 1 or Castrol Syn.

If you have the money to do it I would use Motul Oil, but for my 6 quarts I would be looking at $100.00-$120.00 in just oil for an oil change. I will still with my Royal Purple. LOL

the oil is good for that long. but an oem filter is not. a good synthetic oil can be ran in excess of 10k miles before breaking up. when in doubt, just pull the dipstick and inspect the oil. when oil goes bad it gets dark and begins to smell like burnt toast.

however i do not recommend going 10k between oil changes. however if you go over the recommended 3750 it wont hurt anything. i think the longest i waited in my z was 5000 miles. the oil was still good.

You brown-noser!

Hey, an Alfo Romeo 1.9 JTD turbo diesel engine goes 30,000 miles between oil changes. So I guess I could do the same with my VQ35?

Seriously, and granted oil pressure is not an absolute sign of viscosity and lubrication, I see a significant differances in oil pressure when I change mine every 3,750 miles. (Mobil 1). Plus the engine tone is a bit different.

I wouldn't go much longer than 7,500 miles between changes. Regardless of oil.

I use Royal Purple 5w30. Change oil every 6000 miles and oil filter every 3000 miles. I also use militec-1, you can feel the difference.

I use Castrol Syntec 5w-30 every 5k now, but I think Im going to switch to Amsoil or other "full synthetic" after I make the long drive to the east coast. No consumption at all for me

I would say it is roughly 50-60% highway.
