Just wanted to share this...my run in with a celebrity in my Z
Hey Everyone,
*Not necessarily a race story--please read on*
I just wanted to share this story. I don't post on here much but I'm on everyday. I try not to post because though I am an enthusiast, I don't know all the fancy language so I feel a bit outmatched in that department.
Well the point of this story is not to talk about the race (cause I know there is a separate forum for that), it is to share my love for my Z.
I was driving down I 95 towards Baltimore at around 11:00 p.m. There weren't many on the road. Myself and a friend of mine were heading towards the Inner Harbor and not far from picking up 395 (Martin Luther King Blvd). In my rearview I saw blue lights. At first I thought it was an S2k. But as it approached I could somewhat make out the silhouette and could tell it was an exotic. The car pulls up behind me and I get out of the way to allow it to pass. Lo and Behold, it is a silver Viper. It passes me going about 85 so I speed up a bit. As I was side by side with it the car shot off like a bat out of hell. I have never witnessed that kind of acceleration. It was amazing.
Being the good sport that I am I drop it into 5th ( I know, conservative driver) and catch up to it (by this point he had slowed down considerably). I pull up along side the Viper and the driver is a younger African-American gentleman. After he turned his head to look at me, and upon further inspection, I realized that the driver was Fred Smoot (corner back for the Redskins). I was trying to tell him "nice car" but because we were going about 65 at this point it was hard for him to hear me. He slowed down to about 40-45 as did I. I was able to communicate the "nice car" comment and then I said "aren't you Fred Smoot?" He confirmed. He then waved as if to say let's run this again. We both sped up then he shot out again. I sped up too. He slowed at about 75 and I was able to catch up. I did the 3 finger thing and we were off.
Needless to say he wooped my a$$. It wasn't even fair. I'm bone stock. Not even a cosmetic upgrade. He was toying with me though as he did the same slow down, speed off thing about 4 times. I was behind his car so much his back liscence plate will forever be in my memory (Maryland tags reading "Meemeep"--I guess a play on the old "Roadrunner" cartoons) It was so much fun though. I never expected to enjoy getting my *** wooped.
Now some would query "why would you race this car that you know will woop your monkey a$$?" Well that was the funny thing. I never expected to win. I am not a man with expectations of the miraculous. But there was an interestingly poignant moment that occurred last night somewhere between the third and fourth a$$ woopin. Everytime I would catch up (when he would slow down), I knew I couldn't win but I was willing to try to win....over and over again. It is then that I realized my love for my car. I have never been willing to pick on the big dawgs before. But in my Z I was at least willing to give it a try. If for no other reason than to show people that individuals buy Zs with the expectation of being one of the best performance machines on the road. I wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of me tuck-tailing and pre-supposing defeat. I wouldn't do that to my car. If he was going to win, he was going to have to win.
Everytime we lined up, it seemed like the possibility existed to win...even though objectively, I couldn't win. I've never felt that confidence in any other car.

Than I think you're allowed to replace afro-american by black..
Good story though and I'm in the same position as you are; don't want to post too much BS on here although I check every day!
nice run. although I'd bet the team owner/s would be pretty pissed and I'd bet by street racing he's violating his NFL contract. oh well, why own something like a viper if you can't let it loose right?
Nice story bro. Believe me, you aren't the only one that enjoys getting beat badly by exotics. There have been many posts on here about people racing exotics just to listen to the sweet sound their engine makes! You must be a huge football fan to recognize faces like that.

Great story! I live in Ashburn 3 miles from their camp. One of the skins, (I don't know which one, but he was white...
) came roaring up behind me in his yellow Ford GT500... and try toying with me. Made my day.
I've seen Maybachs, Lambos Astons, you name it...most of the time it's a skin.

SilverSpring, MD.
But I am actually in the Columbia, Frederick, Hagerstown area a couple times a week. I have friends in those areas.
I'm familiar with Ashburn, VA too. A friend of mine works at the TGI Fridays out in Sterling. A lot of the Skins eat there for dinner and frequent Dulles Town Center.

I loved the story. Thats a once in a lifetime race for some people. Last week I toyed with a Ferrari 360. We didn't really race...I think he was worried about cops....but we did punch it a few short times. It was cool.
