not to sound like too much of a *****, but it sounds like it isn't entirely the trans am's fault...but that is just me...

awful.

also, i think that would have given me a terrible sense of helplessness - the knowledge of the potential danger and the inability to do anything about it.

Hunh, I don't get it where was the "n*a" comment? I don't see that anywhere. It sounds like your post is lame...

Also, how can it not be the Trans-Am's fault (to buletman)? Of course we can't say unless we can view the accident (crime) scene, but you'd have to imagine that if the Trans-Am wasn't speeding he would have had time to slow down without swerving to avoid the Maxima.

Yes, I said N!gga in my previous post in this thread. Someone else edited it to say "loser". I said "the N word" because firstly, that is how I speak.....and secondly, that's just what the guy was that did it.

Thirdly, I'm female....

Fourthly, I'm black.

Cool, everyone has a right to make any comment they want. While ***** is both a term of endearment and hostility in the black community (which gets up in arms when anyone white approriates it's use, although they don't mind when white people buy the albums or the clothes) I still don't think it has any place at this forum. Coming from a white jewish dude. Who has a black mother and brother. And a Mixed Brother. And who tries to represent but is obviously confused.

I edited nissan350Z's post and changed the offending word to "loser". While I could tell from the context that it really wasn't used as a racial slur, it is still a word that is unacceptable here. Also, it really doesn't matter to me what race the person using it is...I find it equally offensive coming from anyone.

nissan350Z, I know you really didn't mean any harm in your original post. That is why I did not give you an official warning. I would just ask you to please refrain from using such terms on the forums. Thanks.

I feel bad that this discussion has worked its way into this thread. The original post was very moving and I think important for everyone to read and give some serious thought to. I would ask that people drop this little matter about the offensive word and get back to original purpose of the thread. It is something you shouldn't forget when you are driving and tempted to show off.

Just to post a follow-up to my story and to clarify some issues that have been brought up since my post. I did in fact make it a point to explicitly describe my version of the events to the officers responding to the scene. Being in law enforcement myself (albeit at the Federal level), I know that officers often receive conflicting reports from witnesses due to the trauma of visually witnessing a horrible accident. Although I did not witness impact of the vehicles involved, I was able to accurately describe the reckless disregard the Trans Am driver exhibited on this narrow road and I made it a point to stress this fact repeatedly.

In reponse to Buletman's post, I understand that you were not a witness to this accident but I find it difficult to see where any fault rests on the other drivers in this situation. Maybe I didn't describe the incident to the best of my abilities but I can assure you the reckless speed and erratic driving by the driver of the Trans Am is the sole reason for the accident. I find it hard to fault the Maxima driver for failing to account for an idiot (that he can't see) cresting a hill at around 80mph while pulling out of a parking lot or the woman killed in the Civic who was quite simply driving in the opposite direction. Do you fault her for not getting out of the way of a twisted wreck hurdling in her direction. Just my .02.
