Default 2006 comes with 4 point "grounding kit"

I purchased the Nismo grounding kit from Performance Nissan for my 2006 Roadster. First of all some people where curious about the part even being an official "Nismo" part because no body else sells it. The box came with what looks like a Nissan OEM part number (see pictures), part number 24080-ZGNDK. Given Performance Nissan's credibility, I beleive that the part is. They mentioned that the part is made for Nissan Motorsports USA.

Now on to the important stuff. When I got the cover off of the VQ, it looks like Nissan decided that better grounding is better for the car. I found 4 ground points (labelled in yellow in pictures).

These pictures where taken with my phone.

1. Regular ground point (where the 2003-2005 had them).

2. Next to the fluids
3. On the VQ

4. Another on the engine.

All in all I found 4. There might be more, but I couldn't find them. I have issued an RMA for the grounding kit because i'm very well grounded from the factory. They only point that I find is missing is to ground the input manifold next to the air input.

Oh, as a little FYI... be carefull when pulling the cover off of the engine, there are two little metal pieces (highlighted in RED) to be carefull of. These go between the motor and the cover to position the cover. They fell into the engine bay and where VERY hard to find and pick up.

So you are saying they have better grounding wires instead of additional grounding wires from the 2003-2005 models?

^^ When I tried to quote you it only shows "Deleted" but yet I can still see your quote.

Anyways, every engine is different along with the installation of the kit so mix results are expected.

When I got my grounding kit on, I noticed right away that it idle now at 700rpm instead of 1100rpm.

Same here. When I put my Nismo grounding kit, my idle also dropped to around 700 rpm.

Why were your cars idling at 1100rpm? Is that warm or after you first start it? Mine is like 500-600 (warm) according to the tach.

Yes, but you own a 2003-2005 model. Hence you only HAD 1 point.

This thread is to inform the owners and future owners of th 2006 model that it ALREADY has a 4 point grounding kit vs the old 2003-2005 models only had a single ground point.

Hence when you add a grounding kit to the old 2003-2005 model, you will presumably get better results (such as lower idling, smoother idling, etc).

Nice tip on the engine cover positioners. I haven't had the need to pull my cover yet, but should be doing so shortly. One less PITA faced is a good thing.

I think that grounding kits are a waste of money, but your thread is informative. Thanks.

FYI......My early model '04 has the 3 mounting / ground points pointed out in your photos. As I was looking at your photos, they all looked familiar, so I went to the garage, pulled off the cover & checked them out. The only difference I've ever noticed on the numerous 350's (03, 04, 05, 06) and their ground points is the hood sensor on the '03's blocking the ground point shown in your first photo.

Thanks for the attempted heads-up, tho!

FYI my 05 Ann has the same grounding point on the front of the engine - could be a ground for the exhaust timing wires

i remember it because i used that same bolt to add the grounding wires when i had them fitted

not sure about that point underneath the fluid bottles though

I tried. I understood by the previous Z-Xtreme instructions ( http://www.z-xtreme.com/installation.html ) and the instructions that came with the kit, that there was only 1 point. The one point is/was located under what used to be the hood sensor.

I guess I was mistaken. It does show that grounding is very important and that Nissan took it a step further and added multiple ground points.

I just wanted to be informative. Thanks for double checking your engine bay, it's alot of work to go and check just for reporting back to this forum.

+1
Your right, I should have titled this thread "REVUP engine has 4 grounding points". Technically the 35th Anniversary and the 2006 engine are the same, ONLY IN MANUAL TRANNY.

Just wondering, would something like a grounding kit eliminate the erratic idling?? Sometimes rpms drop around 500, just enough for it feel like its going to stall. Anyone have this happen to them?
