With all of the arguments about which fluids to use how will I decide? How about a thread that only has what people acctually use in there car. I need to know what Royal Purple Gear Oil and Tranny Fluid to use? I read all of the friggin posts about what to use and then someone else would say not to use it. JEEEZZ Just let me know what you are using and if you would reccomend it. I have an 05 Perfromance with LSD only 1,500 miles.

 

I am using royal purple max-gear 75w90 in both tranny and diff

the tranny is a bit "stiffer" when cold, but when warmed up it shifts like a dream. I used to have a small grind when downshifting hard into 2nd gear, now it's gone. Crappy oem LSD seems more cooperative too

 

Maybe that will help with my notchy shift feel.

 

I also put royal purple in my diff and trans.

I agree with the above, trans is a bit more stiff when cold, but at normal operating temperature, it feels a lot smoother.

The diff I noticed alot of a difference in the time it took to actually lock up. Seems to lock up a lot faster.

 

me too..... i just got a new tranny from nissan, had them change my fluids to royal purple too.

 

I put some RP gear fluid in a month or two ago, and now my car actually grinds 3rd and 5th quite a bit more when the car is cold. It seems this stuff really needs to heat up to start working well. I'm thinking of changing to another tranny fluid, but decided I'd wait until I change out my clutch to do so.

 

Are all of you running the same weight oil? 75w90

 

I have RP Gear oil in Tranny and diff. I'll have to agree when the car is cold it is hard to get in gear. Once its warm, I really like how smooth and how it glides into gear. I couldn't tell if the clutch grabs better, due to having my Jwt combo installed. But overall, i'm pretty much happy with it. If the car is cold, y beat on it anyway? So, me havin to wait til it warms up isn't an issue.

 

AMSOIL tranny fluid the best period.

 

I have Redline MT-90 in my tranny right now and I think Valvoline in the diff, going to switch to Amsoil all the way through once I get to the east coast though.
Btw has anyone changed out the clutch fluid themselves? Wondering if I could do this or it would be better to have dealer do it.

 

yeah if its really cold out I let the car idle in neutral and that seems to warm up the tranny fluid so there isn't a problem, other wise its really hard to get in gear.

right now with it in the 60's at night the tranny is smooth as silk all the time with the RP... The 4th 5th gear change is smoother now, before it wasn't very good.

I'm running heavier weight in the diff... can't recall off hand.

 

To change the fluid, drain it out and then use a suction gun to fill from the top hole until it starts coming back out of it. Wear old clothes, cause it will get everywhere.

Yes. 75w-90 is used in both the trans and diff. I personally have never had the hard shift when cold issue because I always let my car idle before running to allow time are all my fluids to circulate through the system and warm up time. It's just good practice for the sake of the engine. RP is like butter baby!

 

what ever happened to using regular tranny and engine oil imo if you race, drag,drift, etc. you sould change it but if not why would you need too.

 

one a full synthetic lets you go longer without a change, I go around 6k miles on RP 10-30 and K&N filter. Also i consider sitting in rush hour traffic in 110* temps pretty damn harsh...

 

I am using RP 75w90 in both the tranny and diff and I love the stuff. I don't have the problem with it being harder to get in gear when cold, or at least I don't remember it being any more difficult from when the oem fluid was in there. I changed the diff. fluid first and then test drove the car and I could actually tell a difference. I then changed out the tranny fluid and did another test drive and again, there was a sublte smoother difference. I'm a true believer in RP. I'm amazed that Nissan says the OEM fluid is good up to 60k miles. There was so many metal shavings in my diff fluid after 15k miles. I was so glad when I changed it.

im using whatever was in my car when i bought it and im at 12000kms should i change my tranny oil? i'd like something smoother it feels like im banging metal when i shift
