Default thinking of buying a car alarm...

and yes, i do know that its best to load up on insurance, and that you can't prevent a thief from stealing your car (or parts of your car) if he really wanted to, but there are things you can do to discourage him. i'm also thinking of some kind of shock sensor- in case someone tries to tamper with it, at least i'll know.

so i've done some research and found out i can get an aftermarket shock sensor that works in conjuction to my passive factory alarm. it runs about $300 installed- which is pretty expensive for an add-on unit. so i think i'm going to get a full alarm system. i've been using Viper all this time and I never had problems with it. i'll probably get a 2way pager as well with all the bells-n-whistles.

i think i'm gonna get a DEI alarm with hood locks, shocksensor, 2way pager, and back up batt. also i'll probably have to defeat my factory system and add trunk release and keyless entry. u guys think that's the way to go?

keep factory- add shock sensor ($300) or buy all new system with full features ($500+)

someone on here was selling the different sensors for the stock alarm cheap (like $20-$50 depending on what you wanted). I'd do a search for that thread...

I just got back from Car Toys. I was looking to get the Clifford 2-way Matrix with a backup siren/battery. I got a quote of $750.

PARTS
Alarm-$375
Siren/Batt-$65
Hood/Trunk pins- $20

LABOUR
Alarm- $120
Siren/Batt- $40
Hood/Trunk pins- $70
factory-to-aftermarket disarm- $100
keyless entry- $120

I dont know the exact breakdown, but the total was over $700. I think I just stick with my Club.
