Default Smokers Package

I very vaguely remember reading that one would be available as a no cost option. Yes I smoke. Yes, I just re-read the thread with the Larry Flint/Hustler no smoking pictures. Frank, did you quit?

BUT.......many of you have been upset that a long cord will be required to use a radar detector cigarette adapter, using the socket between the seats.

My Guess is it will replace the coin holder just behind the shifter.

Yeah I just realized that. How are we supposed to hook up a radar detector. I'm a little speed demon myself and I'm gonna need one. If we had to hook it up in the outlet behind the seats wouldn't the wire get in the way of our driving?

Default Radar Detector

Come on guys, use a little bit of engineering here. Even if the cig lighter was right on the dash, do you really want a cord going from your cig lighter to the radar detector. Hard wire the detector to a 12v source, and put a switch inline so you can turn it off and on. Find a nice looking switch, and find a good mounting spot for it somewhere on the dash, my best idea would be left of the steering wheel. That way you have as clean an installation as possible, just a wire coming up through the front of the dash to the detector. Radar detectors are ugly, but if you're gonna use one, it's the only way to make it not look so bad.

There are also battery operated radar detectors that supposedly work very well.

Default battery operated

I've seen those advertised. I still think the Valentine is the best detector out there. But the Escort solo battery powered one should be pretty good, although even escort themselves say it's not as good as their corded passport 8500. At least you can get the power cord with it, so you don't have to worry about dead batteries causing you to be detectorless. It's always a compromise one way or the other. I personally have never used a detector, but am considering it since the Z is just going to beg to be driven fast. I usually just find someone who's going as fast as I want to, and follow a good distance behind them, so if there's a cop, they're toast and I'm safe. No tickets yet, so I guess it's working. Always being aware helps too, even if you can't see the cop yet, people ahead of you can, and most people even those going around the speed limit seem to slow down when they see a cop, so you get advanced warning that way. Always smart to slow down just incase, even if it is a false alarm. Being 22, male, and living in the metro NY area I get killed on insurance, don't need tickets to raise the rates any more.

Radar detector is a must have. I am planning a hardwired version that runs a (flat style) telephone wire down to the internal fuse box or taps directly into that rearview mirror (lots of features has to be a 12v source). One problem however is radar detectors are like lil steal me signs. I had a Escort 8500 that I left in my car one night only to get up and realize it, my stereo, and CD changer were all stolen. Of course this car had no alarm system but still... Radar detectors are steal me flags. Should be an interesting challenge... V1 all the way BTW.

Part of the joy of shelling out $400 for a V1, is that it uses simple RJ-11 cable to connect the 12V plug to the detector. You can cut it to length, tuck it out of the way, and only pull it out when needed. No ugly coiled cord!

Frank, did you quit?
Thanks for asking. I'm actually on my second day of quiting and it seems to be going ok. I've been taking Zyban for about a week.

Default Zyban For InternetAbyss

You should try a drug called Zyban. You start it 2 weeks before you actually quit smoking. Also, you can use the patches in conjuction with zyban. Reports as high as 60 to 70 percent success rate in motivated individuals. You can get it from you're regular MD.

Good luck...

I did the patch about 3 months ago, and have only had a few cigarettes in bars since then. The craving when I'm drinking is just about gone now, and the standard cravings are completely gone. I recommend the patch if you haven't tried it, but I think the key is really WANTING to quit.
Good luck to anyone trying

I think you are thinking about the Nicatrol Inhaler...I've never tried that...Originally I quit for 17 years using something called One Step At A Time...it's a series of filters that you use to slowly cut down on your nicotine intake...took me eight weeks to quit but I was off the smokes for 17 years...met and married my wife 6 years ago...she smokes..started up again about 5 years ago..this time used Nicoderm CQ patches..no smokes for a little over a month and my wife is also trying to quit..best of luck to all that try..hang in there..you can do it

Thanks for your support Pat. The Zyban really seems to be working. I haven't even thought about smoking at all today. Now last night in the bar, that was tough.

This is FAR from my area of expertise (no bones in the lungs don't ya know) but my brother is a family doc and he uses Zyban as well. There are a few others out there in pill and patch form. That inhaler thing is fine but if you just need something in your lips, use a toothpick or a straw or some type of candy. You should also chew gum (sugarless to preserve your teeth) at all times to keep your mouth busy and your mind occupied. If you can't do it on your own, see your doctor and get on something. However you do it.........JUST DO IT! It's important and your loved ones will love you even more for it.

Interesting to read all the responses to the original post. Hang in there Frank! I quit once awhile ago for about a week, then some friends were smoking & drinking after crewing at the SCCA Runoffs at Road Atlanta, and well.......still sucking them death sticks

BUT, back to the question.....will Nissan provide a "Smokers Package"? And where will it be? I don't like Chrysler's idea of an ash tray that fits the cup-holder.

I'll hard wire the V-1, but I'd like an ash tray & a lighter.

Not sure about where it will be, but for the RSX they sold a portable drop in unit that fit in the cup-holder. Sad thing was it was like 300 bucks installed for that and the cigarrete lighter, and like 90 bucks uninstalled. Hmm pay them 210 dollars to plug in a ciggarette lighter and drop in a ash tray that drops in the cup holder? Think not.

I don't smoke in my cars, though, so it isn't a problem. Yes, I do smoke, but after smoking in my first car, I decided it isn't a pleasureable smell when picking up a date, or picking up someone you want to impress. Much less smelling it when you are trying to quit smoking. I have quit once or twice, and started back.

I need to get away from smoking friends. I see them light one up, smell it, and I think, damn it, give me a cigg. Good luck on quitting.

That's the best way to sum it up. If you're not prepared mentally to quit smoking, you'll never succeed. If you need some inspiration, I'd suggest volunteering some time at your local hospital. I'm sure you'll run into several people who are there because they couldn't kick the habit early enough.

I smoked for years, and finally found the inspiration to quit when my father had open-heart surgery caused by years of smoking. After quitting, I'm back into working out on a regular basis, and have never felt better mentally or physically. Plus, now I don't have to worry about my Z smelling like an ashtray.

One comment on the patch/pills approach. Don't substitute one addition for another. Well, at least first give me the ticker symbol of whomever makes these things...

Don Panoz made his KaZillions marketing the patch. Saw him Friday at Road America.

Glad to see he's spending a portion of his bucks developing an UN-FUC#ING-BELIEVABLE race car. Speaking of sound..........TV Sucks. Gotta be there!
