my light came on when I bought the car. I told my salesman and he took it to service to have them look at it. They cleared the code and ran it through 2 "cycles" and went on a drive to see if they could get it to come back up (they couldn't). Tis morning when I started it, it came on again
. While we were waiting for for the service yesterday, my salesman did a little research and the guy who picked up the car (dealer trade) said the light came on just before he got back (of course he didn't tell anyone). The car was FULL of gas, and I have read that sometimes it is do to NOT tightening the gas cap tight enough (which did happen to me once on my wifes Jetta). The dealer didn't know what it was, so they told me to take it and come back if it happens again (they were very cool about it).
I just went and tightened it and the light still appears, I have heard that it takes a few starts/days for it to go away (til vacuum pressure builds back up in the tank)
any other ideas, is this common???

When the light comes on it means there is a malfunction. A code is stored in the computer. Your Nissan dealer can retrieve this code and fix the problem. Insist they they fix the problem. If they don't, bring it to another dealer.
If the light is due to a loose gas gap, and you're sure of this, you can delete the error codes and clear the light. The light should also clear on it's own after 3 trips with no fault. This may take a full tank of gas. See here for more details and instructions:
