Unhappy It's not curb rash!

Well I have read about all the curb rash you guys have been suffering with. As I washed my three week old Z today I saw what appeared to be the described curb rash on my right front wheel. Well I know it's not curb rash, because I don't park at the curb. I believe it is pothole rash. There are more pot holes than there ever were now, and with wheel edges only three inches above the asphalt I believe that every time we hit a pot hole that the tire gives enough for the wheel to hit also.
What are your thoughts?
I don't think that potholes are something we are going to be able to avoid in the future as the roads get worse.

Do you need it fixed? Are you just venting? Yes, potholes can cause that type of damage. +1 on pics.

I'm like you, I do not park anywhere near any curbs, but do get nicks and scratches around the edge of the rim. I surmised that is has to be from hitting unavoidable potholes. Not much I can do about it.

Yeah they can be caused by pot holes. In my case, I didn't see a speed bump time so I barely had a chance to slow down, and I "curbed" one of my SF-Winnings. It was sad since I actually DID slow down, but I guess the tire compressed or "gave" once it got over the speed bump, and I heard a nice crunching noise, and when I got out to take a look, on of my wheels had a nice "curb" rash.

I'm waiting to see how my new tires help out with minimizing these since the "flange" feature was specifically designed into the Dunlop Direzzas to help minimize curbings. I haven't noticed any new ones since I put these tires on last week. Only time will tell.

I have a few of those same scuffs on my wheels. I know I never scrape the curbs so I couldn't understand where they came from, so I agree maybe they are from pot holes? I know I've hit a few when I had very little warning to avoid them.

Possibilities:
1) recent car alignment or new tires? some careless tech could have scratched the rim when mounting alignment sensors or new tire
2) car wash? the rim may have gotten scratched when the car was getting "pulled" through the car wash

I posted to start a dialog about possible scratch marks showing up on our wheels. Due possibly to poor road conditions.
Now you stupid asses.
I would have stated that perhaps they came from a tire alignment or a car wash. Which the car has been involved in neither, since I have owned it. I wash this car by hand once a week. I noticed the marks after the last wash while drying the wheel myself. They weren’t there the last time I washed the car.
Damn some of you posters here are so friggen stupid. :icon20

Please forgive my insensitivity to your stupid comments. :icon8

awright calm down man, they could be impact scratches....if there is any way possible try to avoid hitting potholes dead on, you have to remember that your sidewall is very small and your tires are not going to absorb all the impact....

Joelman, since switching my tires out to the Direzzas, I can tell you I haven't gotten any new scratches on the edges of the rims. I think the flange does help out. I think also making sure you have the proper air pressure definitely helps to absorb shock from the potholes. I try to keep my tires at around 38 PSI although recommended pressure is 35 PSI.

I attached a couple of mine, but it's kind of dark in my garage, so the pictures aren't the best.
