I love the convertible too much. If I had my choice I would Never get rid of it, except for a newer model with TT's from the factory.

I hear what you are saying on the STI, that was a serious contender for me. I definitely made the right choice with the Z, but if I ever need four seats and four doors, the STI would be a great choice.

Well, that's very subjective bro since both are fun to drive & you are comparing apples to oranges because they are two totally different types of cars. It really boils down to what you really want out of the car. Plus it always seem greener on the other side. Meaning, you will always find something you wish you had that another car may have. Example...the STI maybe more practical but the Z definitely looks 10x better IMO.

Now, I can see why you are considering an STI since you live in NYC which has snow during the winter & the AWD system would be great on those conditions. Most Z owners that live in areas that snow end up storing it for the winter & driving a beater but perhaps this is one of the reasons why you are considering another car. I'm pretty sure you'll be missing the Z though when the snow clears because (I'm sure you'll agree) it's just a blast to drive in good weather. Also if space is your concern, the STI definitely has more of it than the Z. Again, it really depends if you need that space or not. In this area...I say if you have a family, then STI. If you're single, stick with the Z.

my brother has an sti and i have a z, i drive both on a daily basis, as does he. if you want practical buy the sti, but you might as well buy a box on wheels, theres no curves, nothing like the looks of the z, the sti has the peformance advantage, but damn do you make losing look good in the z.

i have respect for the STI in that its a great all round car... who wouldn't want turbo+awd... but I can't get over how rice-y they look. I think I could drive one if I took off the rear wing but when I was shopping for cars I wasn't about to buy a $30k+ car I would have to mod right away just so I could stand it.

EDIT... If i needed something more practical I think I would go with a G35c or sedan if I had to... you can pick up used g35x's for pretty good prices, no it won't out perform the Z or STI but we are talking practical here.

Personally i like the Evo a lot better than the STi. I think it looks a lot better and the car makes a lot more sense with the FMIC rather than that stupid top mount. Supposedly the new MR is ridiculously fast, 12.8s stock!

Edit: I forgot to address the actual topic, eventhough i like the Evo more than the STi, i still don't like either as much as my Z. My best friend drives an Evo so i drive it every now and then and the thing is awesome, but you should see the looks i get in the Z. I don't notice it very much, but my friends always say when they get in my car they notice people staring like crazy. It's a nice compliment to hear "dude alex, it's crazy how everyone just stares at your car." I have a body kit and a nismo spoiler etc too which makes it even more pleasing to look at.

I was actually debating between those two cars. Then I decided, screw practicality, 350z has 1. class, 2. looks, 3. attention getter, 4. you dont have to give rides anymore to your friends except hot girls , 5. STi has the ****tiest interior ever. I could sacrifice a little power for those. oh as for practicality, as i said before... screw that!

No.
I did drive one before I got the Z. I honestly had not considered the Z, even though I had a great used 280ZX a long time ago that I loved. I had seen a co-workers STI and read up a little, sounded impressive. It screamed on the test drive, but there was 1 crucial problem, no auto available, not even a triptonic. That is understandable the way it is set up. It needs to be DRIVEN, and that kind of power, AWD and off-road rally sports car neeeds gear grabbin'. I'm allegedly pushing 50 and I have to do a suck azz rush hour to and from every day. I also drove lots of sticks, I wanted an auto. Then there are those synthetic seat covers, I want leather. It was ricey, no offense.

The Nissan store was right there, huh. I wonder??? 1 test drive. 1-2006 Silverstone gray with burnt orange, Touring, auto, goodies and custom wheels Sir, thank-you, bye. I haven't had this feeling in awhile, I love it, didn't care for the STI, although a second car for snow would be great???

Oh ya, also drove a 4 year old 911 and a new vette in the past 2 months, and it was; 1-2006 Silvers..., hehe.

coming from a sti... to a Z

If your looking at the sti just because it has 4 doors... please thats a stupid reason

i barely can fit anyone back there when i sit up front... its more like a 2 seater with extra back space...

also... sti ...more noisy... doesnt look as good... (IMO)... just isnt as fun...

but ur choice

Default Z vs STI

...STi does look ricey. I wouldn't see myself driving one without getting rid off that spoiler and tinting those cheesy alteza looking tail lights,
...my whole idea was to get a car that is AWD, snow friendly, good off season beater,... & my biggest concern was to get something that stands out much less than a Z, I have nothing against the Z... Z is quick, Z is stylish... Z is heaven but I live in NYC and having such a cop magnet in a "best protected city in the world" isn't as fun as having that car in the suburbs.
What I'm dealing with is really insane, Even now I got outstanding tickets in court for having a bumper badger out while the car was parked, this is so unreasonable... this is city
Good thing is... you got me a little off that STI idea
