I doubt you could disable it as it is probably built into the "brain" of the car - the ECU.

There must be someone out there who can recode the ecu to take out the code for this. this is f****ing BS.

EDIT: Will resetting the ECU really get rid of this data? Isn't it possible that the data is cached somewhere so that resetting it won't wipe the data?

I doubt someone will recode the ECU - after all, it's taken years just to get reflashes available just to change the fuel maps. That's nothing compared to changing the operation of the ECU.

I doubt that resetting the ECU would wipe the data clean. Say the car gets in an accident and the battery is destroyed/disconnected. Normally, the ECU "resets" by disconnecting the battery for 24 hrs. If it cleared the crash data, if you didn't pull the ECU immediately and read the data, you'd have no way to get to it. It has to retain the data no matter what happens, much like an airplane flight data recorder.

As DavesZ#3 says I think it would retain the info, but it seems as if anything can be hacked. If Nissan can retrieve it some one can probably delete it.

I'd bet it can be accessed and deleted with the Consult II module that Nissan uses.

You gonna try and delete it with 6 cops, 2 fire trucks, one ambulance, and a couple of news helicopters watching after the wreck? Might as well light it on fire. Or run away.
