Exclamation Help! What is this noise?

Got an '06 Touring Z A/T, with less than 4000 miles on it. Only mods I have done to it are JWT Pop Charger and a Stillen Dual Exhaust. I installed both about 2 months ago.

I hope this is not a normal problem. It can become very annoying.

Past few days, though, my car has been making a grinding/clicking noise. This noise occurs at around 3000 rpms, when I let off the throttle. It appears to be coming from the rear of the vehicle. When I make it click, I can not hear anything coming from the engine bay, so I think the engine is fine.

My thoughts are that it may jus' be something loose with the aftermarket exhaust, since it sounds like it is coming from the rear of the vehicle. I want to take it to my mechanic and throw it on a lift but things are not going too well right now with the families, as his sister is most likely breathing her last breathes due to cancer. Thus, I can not ask him for a favor right now.

The car drives fine. Acceleration feels normal, breaking and suspension feels normal, shifting feels normal. I allowed the A/T to shift for me and it felt allright. I also used the manumatic mode to shift at low, middle, and high end rpm ranges and it shifted without a problem. That being said, I doubt it is the transmission. The clicking mainly occurs during deceleration at around 3000 rpms, and does not occur always.

The car should still be under warranty so I don't really care TOO much, but until I can figure out exactly what it is, my baby is staying in the garage.

Here is the sound file: clickingnoise.wmv
If you are having trouble hearing the noise, turn up your volume.

Are you speaking of the infamous rear axle clicking? Sounds like dropping coins on concrete?

Uhm... I can't really describe the sound. That is why I posted a sound file. I wouldn't say it sounds like coins on concrete. Maybe coins on a wide thin alumanum pan. Is that normal?

Although kind of sounds like part of your exhaust might be loose...

Nope. Not the rear axle service bulletin. The clicking rear axle only happens when the car is moving.

I recognize that sound. I had the same problem... it's as simple as checking all your connection of your exhaust. Mine was loose, after i tighten it... the noise was gone.

Yeah I doubt it is the rear axle because like you said, only occurs when it's moving. This noise happens also when I am standing still in neutral and revving. Probably just a loose exhaust bolt..?
