Cos cruising is cool dood. Especially when you can shift at 2000RPM and get 28MPGsssss...

Guys, if your cars could speak they'd say "Drive me proper, ***** Foot"

Maybe because not everyone is in a race 100% of the time?

Correct, and this post can be summarized as:

1) Shift Early (but not too early), let's say 2000-2500RPM to preserve the most gasoline.
2) Shift somewhere mid-range, let's say 3000-4500RPM, for a good combination of acceleration, preservation of the engine, and saving some gas over option #3.
3) Shift at/near redline for max acceleration, decreased engine life after years of this activity, and the worst gas mileage.
or
4) [This is the correct answer for anyone who can drive an MT] Or use a combination of the above shift points depending on driving conditions and or motives.

Just as I stated in my prior post and I paraphrase, "Shift anywhere between Idle and Redline and you'll be O.K. with various qualitative factors (gas, acceleration, longevity) differing for each shift point."

Sure! Why not? You can go about 5-10mph in 3rd without stalling and you can run it up to roughly 90-95 without redlining it! Seems like the ideal gear for all day driving to me!

I prefer 6th for all my driving needs. I prefer not to shift, and I like the convenience.

The 350Z has an efficient cooling system. The transmission might not shift, the windows don't work and the front tires have to be replaced every 10,000 miles, but damn, the car runs cool.

If you want to drive around at 4,000rpm, go for it.

The Borla bogs at lower RPMs but I still shift around 3k around town. Unless I'm first at a stoplight.

It cant be too much different compared to the 5 speed. Did you run that in 3rd gear all day long? Of course you will save gas milage by running the car in the highest gear possible. You do not want to be cruising down the interstate at 70 mph in 4th gear, you want to be in 6th. This is common sense, especially if you have 5 years of driving experience.

I am. I can't stand the fact that when another car is next to me at the stop light and it's inching up to get a head start. No way this guy is smoking me. I own a Z.

5 and 6-Speed are so dramatically different.

Hey you look good in that eclipse. Haven't I seen you somewhere. Who cares.J/k

It must be my immature mind. But hey, don't tell me that you never thought about it. If you mean to tell me that you have never thought the guy next to you at the stop light wants to take you to school. Please... No one wants to say, wow your car is nice. What they're thinking is, "That car is not that fast, I can take him." Maybe it's where I live.

Don't get me wrong. I dont want to put anyone in danger. I'm not out on the street racing everyone at a stop light. I'm just thinking in my head while I look to the left and see the other driver looking at me. What the hell is he thinking. If I pull up next to you with my car what would you be thinking?

I hope that you are not serious about this. If someone pulls up next to me and checks out my ride, I do not assume that they want to race. I've had several guys pull up next to me at a light (S2000, 70's Camaro (definitly would have torn me a new ***), C5 Vette) and gave me a thumbs up/compliment on the car, and none of them tried to instigate a race. Just because a nice car lines up next to you, doesnt mean that they want to race.

True. I always try to catch up with an Elise when I see one just so I can check it out. Those drivers (so far) seem to realize this and we're both cool about it. It's cool when you can both admire cars and not feel the need to race.

Yeah, usually there is a required rev from the other driver before you assume they want to race. Otherwise they probably just don't really give a $hit about you, or what you are driving (99% of drivers are not car enthusiasts at all).
