Default Got rear ended what to do?

So wednesday night I was driving in atlanta rush hour and this guy in a 00 maxima rear ends me going about 10-15 mph Amazingly there was no paint damge what so ever however there was a slight bump about the size of a dogs nipple where the under bumper pressed the plastic. I took it to a shop and they want 583.00 to fix it. The guy that hit me does not want me to call his insurance. I am very busy and only have next monday so I could drop my car off then, but he is stalling.

Should I be a jerk and call his insurance or should I give him another chance at the expense of my time?

I'm sorry to hear about that

call him and ask him where to send the bill. Tell him to pay it or you'll call his insurance, because the fix cost is higher than your deductable.

I would ask for a cashier's check for $1,000.00 by tomorrow evening to cover the expense of repair, any problems that may come up during or after repair, loss of your time, rental and the good will of not reporting. If he wont agree, I'd report it.

Hehe, you're doing him a favor with what I suggested.

Default I agree

I agree. By agreeing to keep it out of the insurance companies you are doing him a big favor AND taking a risk (that he won;t pay).

I was on the other end of this once. I hit a guy from behind on an entrance ramp. (clearly my fault) I asked him to keep it off the insurance and he hesitantly said ok. When he gave me two estimates I paid him ASAP and thanked him for doing me a favor.

If this guy doesn't pay (and pay fast!) I would take that as a sign he has no intention of paying and go to the insurance.

good luck, Im guessing you have no police report then. gonna make the insurance company difficult to convince it was his fault.

ask for the cost of a new bumper and painting. seems fair enough... then you can take the money and do whatever with it. including get a body kit bumper if you wish.

Just ask the guy to pay the actual cost of the damage. Give him a reasonable deadline (before you start repair). If he doesn't pay, report it to his insurance. What people are recommending here (i.e. asking him for excess damages) is a dangerous game and could come back to bite you.

Would that be a dachsund or doberman sized nipple?

Anyway, if he cant give you the full cash amount immediately, go to the insurance.

Made that mistake once. Guy sideswiped me getting off an exit ramp from the middle lane. A few hundred dollars of damage. When I called he said he would come by the next day with the cash. Next day, no cash. Called again, another excuse. Went to look for insurance info - couldn't find it. Called a third time but the pri_k wouldn't even take the call. An expensive mistake. One day no cash, call the insurance company. Period - end of issue. If it happened today, I would have called the Cops before I was out of the car. I want a witness and calling is the first step to a police report that favors you.

I c alled the cops and they came I ask that the guy not be ticketed in exchange he wrote me in his own words what happened and described the damges to my car each of us signed and the cop witnessed it. i assume this would be enough to convince the insurance company of fault and damage.

I have decided to attempt to fix the damge myself and keep the money the guy has now agreed to pay me.

If anyone can help me with some advice. Here is how it looks

On the rear lower bumper upon impact the outer plastic was pressed against the inner bumper creating a small bump and a slight deformation the bump is about 5- 10 mm wide and about 2mm high the deformation is about 5 cm and very faint. There is no paint damge what so ever. My rational is to remove the bumper and using a heat gun heat up the deformation slightly from the inside and smooth it to the original condition.

My question is will the heating effect paint color enough that it would be noticeable? Is this even possible? Does anyone have an exploding diagram of how to remove the rear bumper?

Help me!

I got hit by this kid one time who also asked me not to call his insurance. I took all his insurance info just in case, but said that as long as he paid by the end of the week thant I wouldn't call. It turned out that he was one point from loosing his lisence, but fortunately daddy was rich. I had about $1500 in damage to my car. His dad gave me a cahsier's check for $5000 plus paid my rental car bill.
