Just curious but how is this possible on the hood? Isn't the hood Aluminum and shouldnt it take more than a couple years.
Can you guys list your year and last 4 or 6 of the Vin or something to see if they are all made at a certain time or lot number. Maybe even color code. I don't have this as far as i know but i'll need to re-inspect.

My friend had this on his 03 and also had lots of corrosion along the leading edge of his hood, and under the hood where the black weather stripping is. He was able to get the front end re-shot under warranty.

Hmm maybe it's this:

This seems to be quite common if you park your car near a railroad. It's called rail dust and it'll get on your car. Check out the pics and let me know what you guys think. Taking my car in to the dealer tomorrow; will let you guys know what they say.

Update:
Went to the dealer today and saw the service manager who said it looked like "rail dust" (read about it on autopia.org or see above links in earlier post). Sure enough, he takes my car out to the back and uses a clay bar and wax and it came right off! I'm going to get it fully detailed now to get all the remaining spots off.

I had a similar problem but on my hatch, not the roof. The "rust" wasn't as big as the pic, more like the size of a pin-head, but spread out in various places on my hatch. Really looked like rust though and I was very annoyed since my Z was less than a year old at that point....
During that time I lived about 1/2 mile from the Pacific and off a busy San Francisco street so it could've been a number of things.
Anyway, that weekend I washed with Dawn to get off all the old wax/polish then clay bar'd....then washed with regular car wash soap...and just like that... ALL GONE. Finished up with a fresh wax and the Z was brand new once again.
Haven't had the problem since!
Try it... Hope it helps!

I have one rust spot that started underneath of the paint on my passengers side roof. I watch it grow form a small tiny bubble to a couple tiny bubbles, to now a tiny rsut spot with tiny bubble arond it. It gets bigger every few months...but i'm talking nanometers bigger....not much at all. as soon as it gets big enough to hit with a touch up paint brushm, it will become part of my wax routine...i've grown too attached to it now to get it permanently removed. I cal it the beauty mark.
