What kind of question is this? Are $600 worth your life or that of anyone else in the car? You decide.

They are a separate option.

Do I think that I'm going to die now that I dont have them? Nope. Every other car I've owned did not have them.

I've even been in an accident (not the driver) and went through the windshield (just took off seat belt to get my wallet out), and I lived. Yes, they are probably a good idea and make sense to have...but I wouldnt make a big deal about them.
True, your car may not have had side airbags, but have you every been T-boned before? I'm sure if I car slammed into the side of you, sides would make a huge difference. I don't know about you, but I like the extra safety feature on my daily driven Z.

The side air bags would be nice to have if you wanted the added safety and didn't mind the extra weight. Especially on public roads. There are so many terrible drivers out there it's not even funny. One thing that is funny though, race cars which are designed to see speeds of around 200mph don't have airbags. I guess your average soccer mom can't live with a full race spec roll cage and a 6 point harness.

Keep in mind folks, just because you have side air bags doesn't mean you are invulnerable and you can't be killed in a car wreck.... your odds just go down, VERY slightly. Don't think you are 10 times safer just because you have air-bags - it would suck to find out otherwise the hard way.

If you get t-boned, the airbags are not going to prevent the impact of the other car from smashing into you. They just prevent your head from smashing off the side window / whiplash. I'm not saying not to get them, just that its not going to make that big of a difference.

I'll just come out and say it then. Don't waste your money. Saying you need side air bags is like saying you need TCS, backup cameras, proximity sensors, and the rest of that garbage. People got along just fine without all those things for a very long time. Has anyone here been in a car accident? I have. Did the car have side airbags? Nope. I'm still here. If you are so freakin silly retarded that you need all those things to make it through the day, then just live the rest of your life in a bubble and let the rest of us kill ourselves.

Umm, race car drivers have this thing called hellmets and restrictive racing harness.
