Is there anyway that i can get reimbursed from the insurance company or driver responsible for causing the damage because the car will have now have a lower resale value?

lower resale value generally applies to salvaged title vehicles....
i assume your car still has a clear title, if it was properly repaired... it should be as good as new.

Agreed.

If you were to try and sell it within the next 6-8 months you may have some people walk away or ask you to come down on the price. After a year or so you should be fine.

I've been a claims adjuster for over 6 years and have never paid anyone for dimished value.

Yes, you need to research making a "diminished value" claim. Obviously, a car with repaired body damage is worth less than one that was never damaged in the first place. Unfortunately, in my experience, most insurance adjusters are a bunch of b*st*rds who try whatever tricks they can think of to minimize their payment to you. They are not interested in giving you a fair settlement. So, when they tell you that they will not pay for diminished value, don't accept it. The only way these guys will get serious with you is if they think they might end up in court. You may have to threaten them with the prospect of a law suit. However, again, in my own experience, all this effort is not worth it (and they obviously know that and gladly take advantage of it). So, if the threat of a law suit does not work, your best option is probably to hire a lawyer to pursue them. It's cheaper for them to pay you something than for them to go to court, and that's what you need to take advantage of. It's a dirty game.

Maybe I am misunderstanding you.

A Carfax check would show that the car was in an accident and that is an immediate drop in car value.

The severity and/or type of the accident detemines how much.
