Default Downshifting

I wanted to know how I should downshift in my Z. Should I just slow down a little then shift to a lower gear and pressing the brake while releasing the clutch? Or should I slow do a little and shift to a lower gear and give it some gas? And should I stop in neutral before going down a gear to rev the engine a little?

I suggest down shifting into gear and before letting up on the clutch, tap/blip the gas pedal to rev the tach up to match the engine speed with the transmission(rev match) when done properly the transition will be smooth, no jerky motion. If you rev too much you will lunge back when releasing the clutch if too little then you will lunge fwd. This is most useful when cornering or down shifting for acceleration purposes. When simply slowing down you can do this or just as you stated above slow down and down shift while breaking lightly so the tach dont jump so high when you release the clutch. You should rev match whenever possible though, this is better for the engine and especially tranny.

If you're doing like 50mph and you're in 5th or 6th, and want to go into 3rd, you should have at least a rough estimate of what RPM you'd have to rev to to be able to put it into 3rd. Pressing the clutch and letting the revs drop, and trying to put it into 3rd @ 50mph will not work, you have to rev to like 4k RPMs or so and then it'll let you get into 3rd.
It takes alot of practice to do it smoothly and quickly.

Search around a bit, you'll find great tips from other members.

Just blip the throttle when you downshift, before you let go of the clutch. This'll get the engine to the RPM where it will be when you let go of the clutch...that way, it wont jerk and u'll be in the power band right away.

If you are downshifting for quick acceleration, i would suggest you to hold the clutch and blip the throttle (roughly 1000rpm for downshifting one gear), then release the clutch.
If you are turning, I would suggest you to heel-toe, but it takes practises to master it.
If you are just stopping, I think you just step on the brake, and put it in a lower gear without blipping throttle.

I know what you're asking, but I don't know what you're writing at the same time

When I drive -- say in 5th gear -- and need to make a turn, I would do the following: brake to slow down a bit, cluch in, go to 4th, then 3rd and slowly clutch out and gas.

However, if you're JDM-tide, you would cruise in 2nd gear all the time -- to show off your exhaust note -- and before a turn, you would tap the clutch to break traction while turing, inducing a massive power slide, all while never touching the brakes because it's for girly men.

Drive up to a big brick wall. Put your nose about 2-3 inches away from it and put it in 1st. Then let off the clutch.
Haha just given you a hard time. Just listen to what everyone else said and you will figure it out pretty quickly.
