Default Ticket Advice

85 on a 65
Last week @ about 8:15 in the morning in OC, cali i was driving on the highway when i decided to pass this truck in front of me. Long story short i went from 60 to 90, right when i passed him i was doing 85. Why did i do that, i don't know don't ask me. Bike cop caught me. Didn't even let me talk. Is not like i had anything to say in my defense but damn in less than 5 min i had my ticket. He was hungry alright.......

How much am i looking at? What can i do about it? The ticket says i have to go 2 court & is my 1st speeding ticket

or if you have any traffic attorneys in the area...which i'm sure you do, just look first... you can hire them to represent you in court... they most of the time will get your ticket dismissed, or on probation. you seem like either you are a good driver, that doesn't speed often or has just began driving... so with this being your first offense it should at least get probation and within usually 90 days the ticket is dissmissed and nothing goes on your record...

so your insurance premiums don't go up and yadda yadda...

definately worth the $$$ if you ask me... i have 2 attorneys that i call in DFW, because i am a habitual speeder but after the number of tickets i have, I am really tired of supporting the police station single-handedly... so i've really been watching how fast i am going...

85 in a 65 looking at around 150 to 200 dollars, depending on your area. I was doing 27 over in one city and got $277.00 and 26 over in another city and got $209.00. It all depends on the officer and city. Most expensive ticket I got was 377.00. Made me never want to speed again.

I think you can get away with it with couple hundred dollars. In CA, everything is about $$

This question is best in the regional forum. California members can better answer the question.

yeah... but paying the fine will sure get it taken care of... but if you read the fine print... simply going to court and paying it is considered "No Contest" or "guilty"... sure you were probably speeding but at least with the attorney it will not go on your record...

you can do this in person but you first have to show up to the courthouse... then enter a plea of not guilty and all that jazz... if your like me, i really don't have the time or patience to go screw around in the courts... so i pay my guys the money to do it for me... I usually still end up paying the fine amount however... and the attorney fee... but it's hassle free, gets it removed from your record, and the only thing you are out is... money...

so i would definately recommend getting an attorney over doing it yourself any day of the week...

I was driving from Cali to CO and the billboards on the side of the highway had endless traffic attorneys. I wish I knew about them when I got my first ticket. Maybe the billboards can help you out. I don't know how respectable the attorneys are but it read they will represent you in court and also get the charges dropped...

In California, unless you have a commercial license, you can pay a fine and do traffic school. I think the traffic school will help with the insurance and not show up on your record.

But, if you have a commercial license like I do, you can no longer go to traffic school. It will show up on your record, and raise your premiums. Believe me, I know!

I don't know what the law is in Cali...but in Houston, 20mph over the speed limit is nothing, you can take defensive driving....I recently got a ticket for doubling the speed, 120 in 60zone, and I got off with a lawyer....well, I'm still on defer adjudication until august, and the judge made it "SPECIAL" (aka stricter) for my case...

Ive used mr ticket down here, dont know if hes goes to OC. But hes gotten me outta 2 tickets. He goes to court and takes care of it but if its far from home just pay it and go to school. Last tickets I got were within 2 hours of each other in 2 cities. Mr ticket got first erased but had to pay second since it was so far away and go to school to keep it off my record. darn lead foot!
