Default 100+ Octane

Can anyone tell me if 100 octane or higher will hurt my engine? I found a gas station here in San Diego that sells it but i don't want to burn anything up under the hood.

It will not hurt the engine nor will it improve performance.

There's a gas station in Alabama that sells 93 octane for like $3.05, and it's 91 octane is only $2.85!

Higher octane will allow more agressive tuning. You can run a leaner mixture, more timing advance, higher compression, and forced induction cars can run more boost.

But unless your tuning demands higher octane, there is no advantage to running it. Octane rating is simply a measure of resistance to detonation.

I ran 100 octane in my car and felt a difference. Once I get my UTEC and tune for 100 octane I'm sure I'll fell a larger difference.

I have noticed a slight bump in performance when I run either Mobil or Exxon gas vs. that of the average Citgo/7-Eleven gas. Nothing dramatic, just a tad bit quicker. Anyone else notice this?

Ahhh...butt dyno results!

Octane rating has abslutely nothing to do with the energy content of the fuel. Actually, the higher the octane, the more resistant it is to combustion, and actually burns slower.

"Are you tempted to buy a high octane gasoline for your car because you want to improve its performance? If so, take note: the recommended gasoline for most cars is regular octane. In fact, in most cases, using a higher octane gasoline than your owner's manual recommends offers absolutely no benefit. It won't make your car perform better, go faster, get better mileage or run cleaner. Your best bet: listen to your owner's manual."

Unless your heavily modded, don't waste your money, the performance gains if any and probably very miminal are not worth $8 a gallon.

Smarta$$. I not saying that it took seconds off the 1/4 mile or whatever but there was a performance difference. I don't fill up with 100 everyday also. Its not worth the extra money. Like I said though we'll see what happens once I get the UTEC in.

There is a gas station off of Mollison in El Cajon that sells 110 octane

The gas station that sells 100 octane is off I-8 (not sure of exit, but it is by the 15) There is a Home Depot if you keep driving past the Home Depot that gas station is there. It is an industrial type of gas station that normally caters to commercial vehicles. I have filled up there a few times, but the 110 off of mollison is only $6.00 a gallon so I used that mostly.

Agreed or if you have a fully built NA engine with high CR and have a standalone and tune it for higher octane. But for guys just running bolt-ons, you wont feel a thing or if you do feel it, it will be a very small gain about 3-5hp.

It shouldn't. You can only damage your engine by abusing it.
