Question Royal Purple ? Questioni ~

what kind royal purple engine oil are you using ..
High Performance Racing or Multi-grade motor oil ?
( racing 21 ? ) or just regular 10w-30?

what's the different after you change ?

I went to shop for oil change, i brought my own, but when they were going to add into the engine, they asked me " this is not fully synethetic, are you sure you want to use it" ... but i ended up using the royal purple multi-grade motor oil 10w-30 ..

Is it fully synthetic? cause on the bottle, just show " with synertec" and synthetic oil..

thanks

I would not use RP "racing oil". They are meant for the track and not for street use (where detergents are needed).

I use RP 10w-40. i switched over after my free dealership oil changes were up and the engine felt a bit smoother.

I switched from royal purple 10W30 to redline 10W40 because the royal purple has a lot of blow by.

I have heard the opposite also... I always stand by RP - good quality oil and the do have tests to prove 3 - 5 hp gain from the oil itself

RP is good, i havent heard good things about their normal oil because it brakes down faster but their racing oils are good.

i used their racing oil in my other car with no problem, it had added stuff to protec the engine under hard use.

I go with the non-racing version myself. I need all of the protection that the pure synthetic motor oil provides, my car is not a daily driver and I only put some weekend miles on it, thus oil changes only come once in a while.

If you really think about it, what would you rather trust Redline oil thats only sold by special dealers or royal purple at pep boys. lol

I haven't tried the racing one, maybe thats why pep boys only carries 10W30.

Hmm, interesting. I guess Pep Boys must "decide what it best for their customers" and stock by region. Mine only carries 5W30, I was thinking of asking them to order some 10W next go around.

As far as the special dealers comment; I don't think I would agree with that. I would think widespread distribution/sales channels would be simething any manufacturer would want, assuming they have the production capacity, think they can set an acceptable price point, etc. I'm not saying anything negative about the merits of redline, I plan to give it a go at some point myself, but accessibility just isn't a factor I would consider in buying a motor oil.

How about price? Royal purple is around 6.00-7.00, redline is around 10.00-11.00/ quart. I just think redline is packaged better and more of a unique oil compared to royal purple. But then again, I still want to wait 2500 miles and check my catch can for the redline residue.

Your oil PSI didn't go through the roof after switching to Mobil 1? That seems to be the biggest complaint I see on these boards, and the reason why most switch to something else after trying Mobil1 FullSyn in the Z.

i dunno, ive seen people have this problem. i had zero problems with mobile 1, i was just curious about rp so i tried it. oil pressures seem pretty much identical between the two.
