Question 3rd gear grinding

I have an 03 touring MT with 12k miles on it. SOmetimes not always it grinds when going into 3rd gear. Have not had a problem with any other gears. I thought i might not be engaging the clutch all the way but Ive been driving standards my whole life and I dont think thats the problem. ANybody have any ideas?

if you're still under warranty, just bring it to the dealer.

Do a search for grinding gears and you'll find countless threads on this. Yeah, just bring it in, its very common for the earlier generations.

I bought the car a few weeks ago. It only has 13k miles on it now. I am not original owner and I have no warranty. Whats the next step"?" Wil the dealer still fix the problem for free? Any ideas?

Out of curiousity, what RPM do you shift at when you put it in 3rd?

anywhere from 3k to 6k. I notice it more at 3k when im just around town cruising. When im hauling *** and shifting hard i dont get it as much. Its spurattic too. Doesnt do it 100% of the time. Just whenever it feels like pissing me off i guess. ANy ideas about the dealership fixing it ? for free of course.

If you have under 60k miles, take it in, and they'll test drive it. If it grinds when they shift you'll get the trans replaced, free. If they don't get it, either go to another dealer and get them to produce the sound. Dude either way, you're guaranteed at one point or another to get a brand new (most current) transmission!
Only thing i get when shifting into 3rd is a notch. Like I feel it hitting a synchro or something. Ugh, happens once in a while, but most noticeable in 3rd.
