Rotating is supposed to be done every 6,000 miles - unless you show some undue wear problems - I persoanlly would not do so. They traded out my front tires at 18,000 because of the noise. I now have almost 26000 and show no unusual wear. I think 35 to 40,000 will be most out of the tires anyhow. I am unusually easy on tires.

Well thats is the problem on a normal car yeah you can changed them in the driveway but the Z comes with a directional staggered tire set up. It requires the tire to be dismounted and remounted on the opposite wheel. Thats why im asking what most people have paid for this service. Basically all 4 tires will need to be dissmounted and then re mounted.

Yeah I have not rotated the tires on the z. go get them rotated normaly for the 10$ then go to one of those used tire lots the one with all the day laborers. and they will do it on the side for another 15 bucks or so.

It's pretty obvious from some of the replies here that a lot of you are NOT reading the whole thread and aren't getting the big picture.

You can't rotate the tires on the Z in the traditional method of removing wheels and putting them on different corners of the car. That doesn't work because they are staggered (different size).

This staggered rotation is not something you want to do every 6000, 10000 or X,000 miles. Do it if you get abnormal wear on the pair of tires. Swapping will extend the life (hopefully) by moving the worn part from the inside/outside to the outside/inside. $20 - $60 to have it done for one or both axles is definitely worth it if you get another 10K of wear out of the tires. Especially if you consider that a new set of fronts/rears may cost you $600 and last only 25K miles anyway.

You can't do this yourself on jack stands.

You can't pay the local tire shop $10 to do it (unless they don't know what they're doing in which case you don't want them touching your Z).

You can't have them dismount and swap tires side-to-side without rebalancing. Remember, the weights are on there to balance the tire/wheel combination, not the wheel. If you move the tire, the old weights are meaningless.

can you actually swap the back to front and front to back? Or will they actually not fit on correctly because of the offset/size?

not true. each tire has its own high and low points. even though in thoery you are marking the same exact locations of the weight/valve stem. the balance can still be thrown off by as little as .25 oz.
BTW: i pay $0 for my rotations. i do them myself at work

I paid $20 per tire the first time I had it done. $15/each the second time at a different tire shop. I was told that the price depends on the size tire/rim. The tires with thinner sidewalls are more difficult to mount and therefore more expensive.

$20 per tire is very reasonable to extend the life of a $1300 set of tires...

For those that still don't understand, there used to be a sticky by that detailed the process... Use the search.

The rear tires are wider on the back, much wider on models such as track.

Sometimes I wonder whether or not some of you even own a Z. And Ztalker you could just mark the tire like you were saying and remount it in the same location w/out balancing, but that's only if the SAME tire is going on the SAME rim. The other guy was right. You are balancing the tire/wheel combination not just the rim.

Back to the orig. post. I've seen most tire shops charge $16-$20 to mount and balance a tire. Since that is what's required w/ the Z than you're looking at roughly $80. IMO it would be worth it if you are seeing uneven wear considering how expensive the tires for our cars are.

The sticky is still around - it's in the Wheels, Tires... forum where it belongs.
