Default DTE = teh ghey

Is my car the only one that goes from 30-31 miles to empty...straight to 0? Kinda defeats the purpose of that meter doesn't it?

I personally don't use the DTE as a serious guideline to determine Distance till Empty...I just don't trust the accuracy of it...Maybe it is though...I'd be interested to hear what other peeps have to say on this.

When you get to 30-31 DTE, all you need to know is where the closest station is!

Hah, just happened to me yesterday. Left the house said I had 4x miles DTE. Get up to a red light about 1/2 mile from my house and the thing starts flashing 0 DTE and I'm like ****...get to the closest gas station, and they don't take $100 bills...so I have to go another mile or so up the road to a different station. Didn't think I was gonna make it.

I've had DTE ~ 20 miles, and it then tanks up 16.7 gallons. So I guess it's pretty accurate if you exclude the 3 gallon reserve.

I recently ran mine down intentionally to learn the setpoints/reserves.

At 28 DTE, the low fuel waring came on. I filled up at 24 DTE, and put in 16.7 gallons. So there is a 3-3.5 gallon margin. Based on my current fuel usage, that would safely give me 60-75 miles.

The low fuel light on my Frontier also comes on when there is about 2.5 gallons remaining.

Ehh...I'd rather fill up with that 2.5 gallons in there...that 2.5 gallons is the crap sitting in the bottom of your gas tank that you really don't want to try and run through anyway.

not really true.... gas is constantly being shaken around and mixed as your driving... when you fill up you are really mixing things up with the force the new gas is being thrown into the tank.... you arent running any higher of a risk running down all the way empty..... assuming there is trash in the tank then you would run more of a risk at fillups of sediment getting through the fuel system

When DTE reads zero does the car stop running? Check it out. I would like to know.

Members have stated that it reports "---" and not zero. Once it reports that you have 3 gallons left. Another member, and myself agreed that we filled the gas tank at reported 20-25 DTE with 16.7 gallons. If we would have driven those 20-25 miles we would've tanked up at 17 gallons, leaving a 3 gallon reserve, which others have mentioned. Makes sense to me

The gas is constantly being sucked from the bottom of the tank wether its full or empty so i dont think it will make a difference, unless whatever it is in gas floats. lol My 300ZX is the same way, the gas light comes on but there is still 6 gallons in there when the light comes on. My sentra is the same way, says 0 DTE but ive driven 2-3 days like that and it still have around 2 gallons in there after fill up, and this gas tank only holds 11.9 gallons! I think its just a early warning for the people that are the real procrastinators. lol
