Default my 05 has feathering!

am i the first one to have an 05 with this problem!!!!

my z is at the dealer right now and they cannot adjust the camber!!!!!!!!!

quick look at the forums confirms this.

actually i have 23k on my original bridgestones (17 inch wheels) and the drivers side has camber wear on it (inside) and you cant see it but can barely feel it (just bareley) with youre hand very slight feathering on the inside tread!

they are still looking at it and are not done with it. the girl i called said that there are 3 mechanics troubleshooting it right now. the car will end up spending the weekend there and i wont get it back untill monday.

they are checking the axle clicking issue as well. you know the clicking you hear as you engage first gear.

any input and experiences from anybody will be much appreciated!

thanks.

by the way there is no abnormal wear on the rear tires or the passenger side.

its only the front drivers side tire!

If it's the same feathering problem that all the hundreds and thousands of previous 350z's experienced, it's an improper toe setting, not camber. If it took 3 nissan techs to figure it out, I would be afraid. Very afriad.

well the car is in for more than just a feathering prolem.

axle clicking and i want them to check motor/transmission mounts because o can feel the shifter shake a little to much some times. only on the freeway.

the mechanic said it is camber, and agreed with me that its on the front driver side.

they are trying to see if it can be corrected.

there were 3 people driving it to find the axle clicking. they claim they cant hear it. thats why thee wee 3 mechanics.

if they have to replace the suspension on the drivers side then for sure i will make them buy me 2 new tires.

23k on them and i could get 33k before that one tire wears out!

perfect allignment could yield me 40k on the front with new tires and no problems but i will find out nothing till monday.

closed sunday and closed for the day today.

sigh, youve gotten 23k miles out of your stock tires, thats more then most people. our cars have a very slight negative camber for better handling. after 23k miles i can see how your tires might have slight feathering. move on with your life, get youself some new tires and be glad you got 23k miles, and from what it sounds like it seems as though you could get another 5k or so in the current condition. if you had feathering everyone grips about on the 03's and some 04's, your tires would have been shot many many many miles ago. if you really want to go the extra mile, have your tires rotated, taken off one tire and put on the other wheel.

Damn, if I got 23k miles on a set of tires I'd be exuberant! I'm lucky to get close to 10.

Bro just do what I did. I was curious so i parked the car and turned the wheel all the way right( or you could turn it left) and inspect them.

check for negative camber wear! you might be surprised.

if the dealer does nothing im having the tires cross rotated on the front! and make them pay for it!

but why should i live with negative camber. its not my fault. buy new tires at 23k. yeah right!

i need to solve this problem before i put rims and tires on my car!

im not going to buy 19 inch expensive azz tires every 20k.

just like on the hondas that are lowered with no camber kit

front tires look like this / -- | except this is waaaaaay exagerated.

you can see that the very inside of the tire will wear out first

My stocks looked pretty well done all the way around at 20k.

Negative camber is good up to a point, it plants the whole tire on the ground around turns. Sure you could get a camber arms and dial it out but the car wont corner as well. I am also betting you did not cross rotate the tires at 10k either.

If one side tire is more warn than the other it could indicate some kind of damage or just exuberant cloverleaf freeway ramp usage.

If you are hoping to get 40k out of your stock tires, good luck, I don't think you would be the first but you would be in a small group of Z owners.

Dude, this is a sports car, of course it will have negative camber wear. If you are worried about camber wear, you should have bought an Altima or Maxima.

If you're pissed about your tires wearing around 20k miles sell the car and buy something else. You shouldn't EXPECT your tires to last that long, period. Most people on these boards are going through a set a year, at least for their rear tires. My tires don't last more than 3-4 months.

Exactly how did you cross rotate the tires on a staggered stock setup? Correct me if I'm wrong, but arent the rear tires a different size than the front ones?

With 17" rims I beleive you have 55 series tires.. So 25k-30k miles out of the tires is not unrealistic. Depends on how you drive tho, if your the type that likes to punch it halfway thru a corner to get the back end to slide out then your doing good to get 20k miles out of them...

Don't know if this is your first sports car, but sports car suspension is usally tuned to be agressive so they handle good, the trade off is short life span on the tires. I doubt what you have is feathering but just normal wear. I know guys with NSX's that only get like 10k miles out of there tires...
