Default 10 grand to spend on performance

Except cosmetically my z is completely stock. It now paid for and factory warranty is up in august. I have 10,000 to up grade performance. It is 5sp auto. What will give me the most bang for the buck?

Best Bang for the Buck IMO would be a Vortech Super Charger and a mildly built motor with Heads, Rods and Better Studs.

Do a search on these things and contact several of the vendors.

It looks like AA is in your area, give them a call too;

Take your car and your 10k and trade into a Corvette. Instant performance gain and factory reliable. I like my Z, but dumping 10K into it isn't a realistic way to get a 180MPH car with .98 lateral G capability.

Actually, with 10K you can get 180mph and .98Gs.

The SC alone with the 3.3 gearing should get you close to if not over the 180mph mark (If you have enough straight away).

There are several aricles on how to get 1G on the sidpad by Changing around the LSD, adding Wider Tires on all 4 corners and spacers.

Other than that.. STFU Noob.

The new corvette looks great with awesome performance but still is more of my fathers type sports car.

I love the look of the Z and wish that nissan would keep up with the performance of it competition. They placing all bets of thr GTR.

dump all of it into the rims. get some lexani rims, 22's if you can. make sure they spin too. i would also get some audio equipment and maybe get a new exhaust system and some Bride racing seats. From there on, you should have about $1000 left, in which you can put into a new dvd navigational system.

I thinking of getting turbonetics turbo kit and a trans upgrade. Should I not do a trans upgrade since I am looking to stay within 350 to 400 rwhp?

You shouldnt need an upgarde at those power levels. If thats what you want to do, my suggestion:

$5000 on a TN kit
$1000-1200 install
$300-1000 guages
$500-1000 exhaust
$300 plenum/spacer

Look on Vette owners face after you bend him over on the highway - Priceless

use your 10k and buy a house. if you have a house, sell your Z and buy a 6spd 06 model. saving for the GT-R is another good idea. you can trade your z in for it and put the 10k down and that will be a good down payment on one.

I do like my Z, but the economics of dumping 10-20K in an FI rig and another 3-5K in handling mods just doesn't make sense. The mods will kill the resale, you will never recover the expense and if the posts here are any indication, reliability goes out the window in many cases.
If this blows your skirt up, have at it. But there are easier and less painful ways to buy more performance. Don't mean to offend anyone, the Z is great for what it is-a reliable, good looking, sporty car. Trying to turn it into a 'Vette or Porsche just isn't easy or inexpensive. The GT-R looks like a better bet.
