Hi guys.

I am reposting this thread as the other one seems to have gotten out of hand.

Please read this thread before posting.

I know how to drive a car properly, please dont reply to this thread by trying to teach me how a clutch works and how it should be used and what a hand brake is used for etc etc etc......please!

I simply have one very easy question that I need answered.

If you drive like me in heavy traffic by using the clutch, and not always use the handbrake, and are a clutch slipper like me, please help me out.

When driving or moving forward slowly using the clutch about 50% or more of the time, while keeping your revs as low as possible, does your clutch burn excessivly and smell so bad that you wanna stop riding because the smell is so bad, and you think the car is burning up. Say after driving in heavy traffic for at least 15minutes this way?

yep, probably cause I ride the clutch too much, I dont know but I'll find out tomorrow

so for now I do get a weird smell, and my transmission has already been blown out

:P life sucks

The 350z's eletronic throttle is a thing of wonder.

Just let the clutch out real slow. Then feather the gas gently and then get it in to a slow crawl. Once the computer knows yer not mashing the gas, but feathering it, I can keep my foot on the brake in rush hour on the 405 crawling at 2mph, about 450rpm or so.

I rarely have to put the clutch back in. And even if I do, just repeat. No burning, no extra wear and tear.

I don't slip my clutch so my answer is "None of the above".

see the thing is though, I'm a student I dont really go through traffic so, I'm surprised that my clutch is burning, I rarely go through traffic....

I have an excuse, I'm a teenager driver and I'm not even 80% perfected on clutch control :P

but I dont think I should be able to burn out a clutch in less the 3 days...

I did that a few times in my 300zx, not good but not a severe problem. I can't recall ever slipping the clutch to the point of smelling it with the 350 however

same here but I drove a GTO, I know its not the same, and I can vouch the clutch is a lot different, and I never got a weird smell out of the GTO

.....

Question odin...did you change the RPM rev limit? I think the standard is supposed to be 6600, just wondering

first of all REPOST bad. Secondly, I don't understand something, if you're slipping the clutch and you smell burning, why keep doing it. Have you tried driving without riding the clutch. If you still smell burning at that point, then yes, I would say you have a problem with your clutch system, but otherwise I would say, that it is not the clutch but the technique. I would fully expect and not be surprized by a burning smell coming from under the car if I rode with the clutch partially engaged all the time. There's a reaon why people are telling you not to do that. People are trying to be helpful by saying to you, "stop riding your clutch" but you don't want to hear it.

That's easy, I can show you how to burn out your clutch in a few minutes

That is besides the point. I realise what you are saying not to do it.

You are missing my point.

This is my driving style is heavy trafic. I dont like changing in and out of gear all the time, and using the handbrake.

So I use this method of driving, not because I am a retard. Thats how I drive in heavy traffic. I dont understand why you cant simply leave my thread alone if you cant
A. Be respectful of my thread
B. Read my thread
C. Answer the question I asked without being so demeaning.

And anyway, I dont ride like that "all the time" jeeez, Only soemtimes during very very heavy traffic flow, why cant some of you understand that

Plus on the repost bit, thanks also for being nasty about that.
I wanted to start a clean, lets not bash odin thread about his pathetic driving style and what an idiot he is.

And here you are telling me whats not good forum behaviour, amazing. Look at yourself before throwing stones.
