In general, mixing tire designs is not a good idea.

What are your tire specs for the rear? Are you using the same OEM front tires for the front (as opposed to rear to front swap)?

Sidewall stiffness on the Goodyears may be a lot less than the stock Potenzas? Rears underinflated making them roll easily?

also, wait for the new tires to break in... they are slippery to begin with...

Yeah, I noticed after about 60 miles of puttin' around when I got my Goodyears (F1 GS D3) that my tires finally had grip... and man, they grip very well.
Make sure you have the right sizes, pressure, and rotational direction (incase of rain) all the way around. You should be pushing in the corner because those Potenzas give sooner than the goodyears and without any warning (touge tested and autocross tested). Don't exactly know what you mean by swaying.

Yes, check the tire pressure I had the same problem and I had way too much air in the tires. I dropped it down to 35psi and all is well!

Running GSD3's all round with the same factory spec sizes as the RE040's yukky Potenza's, GSD3's rolling radius is exceptionally close, and running at 350psi. GSD's great tyre in the wet and dry. Bite the bullet and loose the RE040's all together get a matching set and you'll be sweet. Most of all make sure you've got a good tyre alignment.

New tires on the front will will change steering characteristics. New tires on the rear make the car sway? I don't get it.

Better question is: What tires & size did you have previously in the rear and what are the specs on the new tires?
-VO didn't feel like reading the entire thread and also points out the when seeking advice, details details details is everything-
