Question 5at questions

How safe is it on a new motor (less then 2000 miles) to drive it as an auto stick for an extended amount of time?

How high is a safe area to get the rpm's up to? Is it the same as with a regular stick basically?

Does using the auto stick use more gas? The salesmen told me it uses twice the gas as shifting regulary with the auto.

I'm going to TRY to answer your 3rd question (hopefully others can help with the rest).

I would say that use of the manu-matic or whatever Nissan calls it (I have 6 spd MT, so I wouldn't know) and fuel efficiency would depend to some degree on the driver.

As I understand it, In the normal auto tranny mode, the computer controls shifts and up or downshifts at optimal points, thus making the car as fuel efficient as possible.

I've driven cars with the auto-stick (My GF's now traded '03 Eclipse) and it seems like the car relinquishes some of the computer controlled aspects, and if you don't shift at proper times, you'll probably get less MPG.

I did notice that in auto-stick mode in the Eclipse that if you have to brake too fast, the car kinda jerks abruptly, which can't be good for MPG or the tranny, IMO.

Just my ...hope it helps.

yea slowing down is still kinda tricky, usually i just pop it back over and let the computer take care of the slowing down part

You sound like a candidate for a manual transmission.

+1

I had an tiptronic rsx before this and I found that the computer found the best shift points which resulted in better gas milage. Doing it yourself will result is less if you don't choose the right points.

I have an '06 A/T. I have found that I get around 22.0 MPG when I drive it in D. However, I sometimes drive it in sportshift (auto-stick, manumatic, tiptronic, etc.) mode when I want to have a little fun, if you know what I mean.

When beating her senseless, I have found my MPG to stay roughly between 20.5 and 21.0.

I wouldn't say that using it in sportshift mode wastes twice the gas. It does use up more gas because the driver pushes it harder, but the decremint in gas in negligeable.

+1...i think it uses more gas but not a large amount...taking into concideration that the engine does more work in 5 A/T due to the driver shifting at higher RPMs

#2 You should still keep the RPMs below about 5K unbtil you break it in whether you are in auto or manual mode...

#3 You may see a slight loss in mpg, but probably not very much. I have an 03 AT, and I seem to drive in manual mode most of the time. I average 18-21 mpg, with my foot in it most of the time. I get a little better mpg in auto, but that's probably due to the fact that I don't drive as fast/crazy as I do when I use manual mode.

Get what's best for you and your family. The differences are too insignificant to matter...

Because of the fantastic torque of the Z, it is the only sports car beyond the Vette off the top of my head that I would consider in an auto. The mileage difference at best is insignificant and will be determined more by how you drive. I do believe you can drive the car harder with a stick and still get fair mpg. I drive fairly hard and I still get 21. Drive it normal and I have gotten between 24-26.

YOo can drive it in manual mode off the lot. I only drive in Manual mode and only put it in "d" when im trying to dial a number on my cell phone or somthing similar which requires concentration.

It safe to get to REDLine just like anyother car. Youc an go a little beyone the redline and not worry because the fuel withh cut you throttle to prevent you from blowing up you engine.

I dont think it uses up more gas, theonly advantage to using the "d" mode over manual mode is it will short shift for you.. that will save you a little gas of couse... but how can you resist hearing the VQ sing at higher RPMs?
