I have a stick Porshe and an auto Z.When I really feel like driving there is nothing like the direct feel of the manual trans. However on a day to day basis, driving in urban areas, a stick gets old fast. So I suggest getting one of each!!

It's pretty hard to build a tranny that grinds, let alone a Z tranny. The construction is really awesome. I think the Z was such a desireable car, that even people who didn't know anything about them or driving MT bought them anyway. There were so many sold (my town is over-Z'd), Nissan caved in to the replace-my-tranny-because-I-broke-it-demand, but gave a false fix on the alignment issue.
To answer the question of the original post title, YES.

My brother as a auto 350z roadster and I have a 6MT 350z roadster... The 6MT is more fun to drive unless your stuck in heavy traffic on a regular basis..
That said the Automatic is still fun to drive....
Fun Meter
8/10 Automatic
10/10 6MT (unless your in traffic then its 5/10)

Yes , I started out with a 2004 auto trans. Then decided that i was missing out , and traded that in for a 2005 touring 6speed. awesome car, but for me it was more of a commute vehicle, and manuvering through stop and go traffic gets old quick. i got sick of it and traded that in for an '06 enthusiast auto trans!!!!! yup , i've owned 3 Z's in about 13 months!!! i miss the 6 speed. but its only a great car to have if it's not your only car, as it was in my case. i love my auto. i still hit 60mph on 2nd gear alone. i'm thinking of going with supercharging.

I'm sure there are only few people with stick shifts that can shift faster than the auto tranny. It all depends on what's best for your needs. Is is going to be a daily driver? Do you sit in traffic frequently? Do plan on racing/tracking your car? Don't let anyone decide for you, or flame you... Do what is best for you and be happy with it.

That happened when US and Import Automakers started caving in to the "needs" of the lazy **** American in the 80's. Cars started to become large couches with remote controls on wheels...and you KNOW that people don't want to do any work associated with their driving...God Forbid

(Even our beloved Z became a Lux-Mobile .waaay back in the 90's!)
Why? Because they already HAVE a 9-5 job....and they wanna brainlessly get from "Point A to B" ...whether Point B is pickin' up lil Johnny from soccer practice or just getting an overpriced Venti Latte from MF Starbucks

So, now we have a situation where Auto Tranny is the NORM....Even Ferrari bastardized their cars with the paddle shifters..My God...how lame is that!

High traffic sucks in either AT or MT. 3 out of the 4 cars I've ever owned have been MT, so I'm biased. I would have to admit, though, that I wish I had AT sometimes, but I'd never wish it on my Z. Sure, you can get an AT and not have to be in service quite as much--but can you do a proper heel-toe in an AT? Can you feel like a hero by doing a smooth, grindless shift without clutch? Most people say that MT is more fun--this is WHY it's more fun.
