i have an issue with my z, i always assumed mine was a 2004.5 but what i realized was that it was built may 2004..... so does it fall into the 2004.5 category or the 2003 and early 2004 category? help thanks...

 

I never really understood the whole 04.5 thing. May 04 sounds like an 04 to me.

My 03 was built in 02.

 

does your car have side knee cushion for the drivers right knee, and the passengers left knee..? its a little patch they added in the 04.5+
so if you have that, then it is, if you dont, then its not.

 

it does have the cushion for the knees... which i consider useless.. hahhaa, i guess its a 2004.5 i suppose... unless anyone else has any insight

 

Sounds like a 2004.5. Do what I did -- call 1-800-NISSAN-1 and read them off your VIN number. They can tell you for sure.

 

if it has the cushion its 2004.5. so i guess it is.

 

Can anybody with the knee cushion post a pic please. THis seem funny to me and i would like to see it with my own eyes.

I originally found the official distinction between the two on the nissan-tech.com site. You can tell in the VIN numbers:

2004 Nissan 350Z Coupe/Roadster (Coupe VINs up to D*4T160000,E*4T060000) (Roadster VINs from D*4T102001 to D*4T110000 & from A*4T002001 to A*4T010000)

2004.5 Nissan 350Z Coupe/Roadster (Coupe VINs from D*4T160001, E*4T060001) ( Roadster VINs from D*4T110001, A*4T010001)

 

my Z is December 2003 and its a 04.5... I think in addition to the knee pad you got the front cig lighter as well.. I am not 100% sure the 2004.0's didn't have that but thats what I think I read someplace.

 

revised suspension, knee pad, cig lighter on the passenger side.

 

The cig lighter on the passenger side is not specific to the 04.5s. It's on the 04s as well. The knee pads and apparently revised suspension came later.
