I say go for it. I'm in the same situation. The only issue I see with picking up the 07 is that it may be a "trap", that is a completly new Z could be right around the corner. If this isn't a concern to you, or won't mind taking the hit to have said new Zed, then you should by all means fully engage on the 07.
Nissan has confirmed the HR motor for the Z. It is rated at 306 HP on the G sedan. This is under the new SAE standards. The revup seems to have lost 5 hp for 07 on the G coupe.
So yea 30 hp is fairly reasonable if you take SAE standards and apply them to the 287 hp motor, and look at the difference between the original VQ and the HR.
I had a hard enough time resisting the revup. I don't know I'm really hyped for this HR. Twin intakes, etc.. They are talking about how the sound will be worked on. It sounds like they are trying to make the engine have some more character and spirit/feel in the upper rpm bands..
So maybe the HP difference may be minimal, but I think it will be worth it.
If anything the Zs lacked a bit on top end power.. This was improved with the revup, and im sure with the HR will be improved even more.
If you love the current Z, it sure seems like the 07 will be the year to own. By now they have taken care of the issues, and you are getting a new engine, and hopefully some other improvements.

Im praying they put the Z on a diet....anything under 3000 pounds would be great.....
If the rated hp for the new motor is under 330 or 280 tq I probably wont buy it...then probably will just wait for the new model of the Z
but time will tell....

seriously,...is it just me or what? Yeah i'm happy to see the power figure climbing up every year. Those who are going to buy the new Z will get all these good stuff. But those who got the older version before these new HR engine come out will be at the looser end. Why don't they just making this HR engine as an option?
Same thing happen to my Evo. I bought the damn car 2 month after it hit the showroom...Mitsu at that time said that there will only be 3000 evo in US. A year later, new evo got the helical limited-slip front differential, then the ACD, then the Mivec. So, i feel like my Evo getting out dated.
Now the same thing happen to the Z. 03-04 manual got 287hp, 05-06 got 300hp and an automatic 05 got 287hp, then 07 got the f***ing HR.
What next? Yeah I know the hp war is on, but those who spend the time saving up for the Z only got to enjoy it only a year or two before their Z become outdated.
Think I'm just gonna get a 911 turbo or a 360 modena after I graduate in about 2 years and be done with it.

Yeah that's what sucks. Norapat01 I agree dude.
Every year, they're going to have to add some new performance update because of improvements and competition in the market, which sucks because the previous years become less valuable and have less to offer.

boxster owners have it much worse than the Z... they keep making that car better and better every year and its not tricks to get the hp number up (while losing tq in the case of the Z)... the bumps in power on the boxster actually translate into faster track and 1/4 times.

its funny now im having second thoughts on trading the Z now
I just got off the phone with vortech and they gave me their numbers for their kit on the rev up motor.... im very impressed and the price is not bad...i think i may be leaning towards that.

yeah, i understand the need to staying in competitive area...but i would be nicer if the manufactures make to into an option or package. That way the price will also stay around the same range, and it won't dramatically reduce the value of the earlier model.
Again, no one pretty much give **** about 03 Evo VIII anymore. They all want the 04/05 model with ACD. I don't own the my Evo anymore, but still feel like the manufacture kindda "cheat" us the buyer.
