What gear? My Z has deeper exhaust notes when I'm in third or 2nd. My Borla growls nicely then!

No, it's not normal. It's a well known problem called "feathering". The inside edges of your front tires are wearing unevenly. It generates a lot of road noise, expecially when slowing, especially at speeds below 25 mph.
There is a TSB issued by Nissan for the '03 and '04 Zs. Hopefully, it hasn't already had the front tires replaced so you'll get another set. They will also correct the alignment as that was the cause of the feathering problem.
Check out this thread for more info: https://my350z.com/forum/maintenance-and-repair/15758-tire-feathering-fyi.html
If you do a search on "feathering" you'll also find A LOT of posts about it.
BTW - welcome to the site and congrats on becoming a Z owner.

True....Nissan will give you new rubber!
Yeah,i thought that noise was a little excessive. I had test driven 2 others and don't recall (pun intended!) that much noise! I'll also have the fuel hose done at that time (hell, they'll already have the car,fix it!) did anyone else do the fuel hose recall or have problems?
I mean,it's louder than a cd playin at 22 volume!
