Just bought a '04 silverstone enthusiast. I noticed the car is at it's loudest when deccelerating between 25 and 20 mph (no brakes applied)

is that normal?

What gear? My Z has deeper exhaust notes when I'm in third or 2nd. My Borla growls nicely then!

Welcome and Congrats on owning the best daum sportZ car EVER!!

No, it's not normal. It's a well known problem called "feathering". The inside edges of your front tires are wearing unevenly. It generates a lot of road noise, expecially when slowing, especially at speeds below 25 mph.

There is a TSB issued by Nissan for the '03 and '04 Zs. Hopefully, it hasn't already had the front tires replaced so you'll get another set. They will also correct the alignment as that was the cause of the feathering problem.

Check out this thread for more info: https://my350z.com/forum/maintenance-and-repair/15758-tire-feathering-fyi.html

If you do a search on "feathering" you'll also find A LOT of posts about it.

BTW - welcome to the site and congrats on becoming a Z owner.

Default ok,thanks

Yeah,i thought that noise was a little excessive. I had test driven 2 others and don't recall (pun intended!) that much noise! I'll also have the fuel hose done at that time (hell, they'll already have the car,fix it!) did anyone else do the fuel hose recall or have problems?

I mean,it's louder than a cd playin at 22 volume!

Default well...

It was purchased in Oct. '04 so i still have 15 mos.

Can someone send/post actual documentation about nissan knowingly correcting feathering and alignment.

and those of you who got new tires,...how did you go about this?

thanks
