Exhaust Flames
Anyone know how you would go about installing a system like this.
I would rather have light blue flames though they would look nice coming out of the Z.

i don't know much about it but i know this is call the miss-firing system, it was invented as a mod for rally car regularly.
lol that's all i know but i think the system is kind of expensive~

It has something to do with shutting down one side of the endine which then would shoot raw fuel through the exhaust system where you have spark plugs mounted in the tail pipes. I am not exactly sure how it works but I know they just installed one on a truck on Trucks TV on TNN. Please someone fill in what I am missing.

I would have to think that safety would be an issue here. All of the cars that I have seen this on are street rods with steel bodies and steel bumpers. I would think that the amount of heat generated at the back of the car would have to melt something. If not, at least cause it to soften and droop...

I remember this topic in my Chemistry class, it's caused by a spark plug being installed near the tip of the exhaust. All you would have to do is run a cable to the spark plug and ignite the plug whenever you wanted the flames. The fumes from the exhaust is enough to cause the flames, no fuel necessary.

I did a little more research on this (lord knows why) but, the kits available to do this aren't very expensive, around $80, but, they will not work on cars with catalytic converters. In order to get them to work you will have to remove the converter.

to ignite exhaust youd have to run the car rich, rich enough that not all the fuel is burning in the cylinder. thus it comes out in the exhaust. not too smart. and it can do it on its own if the exhaust is hot enough(ex. drag cars, they have short pipes, and lots of fuel, when the super hot fuel hits open oxegen it ignites again)
in real life, with exaust the length of a car, this would be near impossible, and HORRIBLE for performance, youd also coat your pipes with fuel, what if they ignited? anyway, your other option is an independent fuel line, with a spark plug. wham you have flames.
but remember, you are spraying liquid gas and igniting it. there is a possibility that the gas would spray onto something (car behind your perhaps?) and they would sit and burn untill the drop was exhausted, your not just looking at hot flames, there is an actual fuel source.
anyway, if this wasnt clear enough... do not do it, it is asking for lawsuits, tickets, problems, and most likely, 3rd degree burns.

There is a system like this available for motorcycles also. It kills the spark and sends the fuel/air mixtture out the exahaust and ignites the mixture with a spark at the end of the tail pipes (pretty badass)
I'm not sure how a system like this would work on a car, but I remember a few guys on the Valkyrie boards tore their engines down and found this sytem had taken it's toll bigtime.

There's a company called Autoloc that make a flame thrower kit. It costs about $125, and makes up to 20 ft of flames. It's for off-road use only, though. www.autoloc.com
They also sell kits to make your doors open, Lambo-style. I know there was some people on here interested in doing that.

Well, if you put on a downpipe and midpipe, and run toward the rich side, you should get some flames, not unlike those you see in JGTC. This seems to work better if you have a straight-ish exhaust, like an Apex'i N1 or Blitz NUR-Spec; having a huge single turbo wouldn't hurt either. Most FDs and Supras running with no cats get some flames. Only drawbacks, your car is damned loud (I mean REAL loud), you smell gas in your cabin, and your rear fascia starts to turn black. Or alternatively, just hook up a spark plug near your tailpipe, and the fumes will ignite; that's the only way you'll get those massive flames.
