Default A Stupid ticket...

Last night.. i was exiting the high ways and i made right turn at the intersection.
and.. yes... signal light was red, but i checked all 4 ways and it was clear.
then.. suddenly cop came out from no where and pull me over for disobeying signal lights. he told me i need to do a complete stop before i make a right turn.
today i found out.. that's $100 ticket plus $57 court fee with 4 points on my license.
should i goto court for this? (im in VA...)
any input would be thankful..

Get a traffic attorney.. $100 bucks will save you points, the class, and taking time off to fight it... well worth it.. but unless you can prove you stopped, you will pay the fine either way.

This same bullsh*t happened to me man. I represented myself in court because a buddy of mine knows the judge personally, and he happened to be in the car with me when I got ticketed. I brought my friend along with me and I had a chance to speak with the judge personally. I told him I drive a manual, and in order to stop at a corner, you have to make a complete stop in order to not stall out (Although thats BS lol). Then in court, I brought that up to the judge in front of the cop, with my friend as a witness and he agreed with me. Ticket was thrown out and I just had to pay the court fees. Cop was pretty pissed. I doubt that youll have the same luck I had, but its something you can have your lawyer say for you.

I had the same thing happen to me in Va Beach late one night leaving my neighborhood at a red light. I just rolled out and made my right hand turn with no traffic in sight and low n behold a cop pulls me over. Luckily he was cool and let me off with a warning. VA cops are some of the worst I have ever encountered in my 10 years of driving especially in certain known counties.

So did you stop or not? If you just rolled through then you broke the law. Suck it up and go to court to get the points removed. A lot of times the judge will just take off the points and keep the fine intact.

Nothing else you can really do if you didn't stop.

On a side note, it is legal in some areas to make a left turn, or go straight, while the light is red if you have stopped and checked for traffic. Was pulled over once late at night for this, and the judge threw it out. Said the red light doesn't mean that you have to stay stopped, just that you have to stop.

Pretty simple...suck it up you broke traffic rules. On the other hand you do not need a lawyer for traffic court, on that you probably do not even need to go to court. Most tickets have multiple options, one being to take a driver improvement course and pay the fine. In most states if you take this option you will not receive any points and your insurance cannot go up because of the ticket. However there are also rules to how many times in a year you can do this. If you have already used your allotted traffic school most times you can request to go again in court. There are also other programs out there depending on your age.... Alive at 25 if your under...and over 65 courses.

Yeah, I got a speeding ticket, and I took a class online and answered some no brainer questions. Cost me like 10$ more then the ticket, class costs 40$ then 18% discount on the ticket. Removes points on license and no increase in insurance promissed. Mine was a 48 in a 25 construction. Thank god I slowed down, I was going 60.

Anywho just check around on the internet for classes of that stuff. You will be good.

Good luck,
Shawn
