Speedometer Error- Can it be corrected?
Bought the wife a 03 Touring coupe and changed the tires and wheels. Now the speedometer is off and I want to get it corrected. I went to the dealer today and was told they cannot help.
I used a radar gun and know exactly how much it is off from 15 thru 85 mph BUT, we want to bring it back to correct.
Any ideas where I can get this done in Arizona or southern California?

Roast- Rears are 245x40rx18
Davidv- rather than post each speed difference, it comes out to .933 at each 5mph checked,IE: 100mph is 93.3 on radar.
Arizona school zones are 15mph, they write at 18mph and the fines start at near $500...in the school zones. Highest posted in Arizona is 75 on the interstates and you can get away with 80 to 82 if your not doing something stupid to catch the highway patrols attention. Most give you minimum of 10% of speed limit to allow for speedo error and or tires.
Being able to travel to other states now, having retired recently from carrying a badge for 25 years I do not want to be the one now signing for a speeding ticket like the ones I use to write. So, back to the original question, where can I get it corrected?

Maybe I am reading this wrong?
If you are going 100MPH you are going 93.3MPH on radar?
If the posted speedlimit is 15MPH and you go 15MPH on the speedo, you will be going slower... The Z looks fast, but if your going slower then 15MPH, then there shouldnt be a problem...
You need to put 245/45/18 on the rear and you wont have a problem...
If you have 245/50/18 on there, then your speedo will read SLOWER then the speed you are actually going, then you would have a problem...

Jason;;;
ya didn't read my post....I just put these tires and wheels on the the car and do not plan on replacing new tires....I need to get the speedo recalibrated not a tire change.
thanks for the input though. At 15 I am really doing 14mph.....and no, you did read the speed part correct, 93.3 on radar when the speedo reads 100mph.
I want to GO the speed limit accurately, not just under or close to it.,,,maybe a couple over now and then as well.

While I've not done it on my Z, a few years back I had my speedo adjusted on my mustang which was off by a little bit. Here in SoCal, there are a couple Speedometer shops that specialize in re-calibrating your speedo by changing the gearing that the speed sensor uses. Might want to check your local yellow pages to see if there are any shops in your area.
Also, AAA has free sessions (if you are a member) where you can take your car to the local AAA office and they will test the accuracy of your speedometer. I'm assuming that since they will test it for you, they will also be able to recommend shops for fixing it if it is off. I've never been to one of these sessions, but I see it mentioned all the time in the AAA magazine they send to all members each month.

Far as I know there is no simple way to recalibrate the speedo.... I would just live with it until its time to replace the tires and get the right tire size next time around...

Sucks for the next guy who buys this car, he'll put the proper tire size on and will be like WTF the speedo is off

well, look at the good side of things... you will be going slightly slower then your speedo is going... so if you speed a little bit, you may be ok...
with the 3.6% difference, when your speedo reads 60MPH you will be going 57.8MPH...
Either way, I do not think the speedo can be calibrated on the Z... I am 99% sure of it...
